I was reading the 2 gen section yesterday and it was brought up that it is possible to use a VAFC to open and close the 5th and 6th ports on an NA, similar to how hondas vtec cam lobe actuation works. (My mouth feels dirty from saying that H-word ), I think Aaron Cake was mentioning something about using electronic soleniods to hook the vtec function of the VAFC to, then you would have open and closing 5th and 6ths at any RPM you desire, that would be sick. any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

 

you cut off the wire that powers the solenoid on the 5/6th or vtec.. and replace it with the wire from the vafc

 

I don't see why people are so down on Hondas? They make a good, reliable product at a good price. I wouldn't get one and slap Vtec stickers all over it, or mount a large-assed wing to it, but they're not bad cars I would own a honda if I needed to get from A to B in moderate comfort and speed, with good fuel efficiency.

that woiuld be really cool if someone were to do it and try it. That way we could adjust when the 5th and 6th ports open. Although I have been thinking about this alot under some loads compared to others does the stock setup open the 5th and 6th ports fully or do they open gradually. If not then there might be a way for someone to have them open at different throttle positions much like a mechanical sec. carb. but like i said I dont know to much about how the 5th and 6th ports operate.

yeah you could adjust when they open optimizing airflow.

 

I'm not sure you'd gain much by having extremely fine control over when they open. From playing around with my SAFC's AFM percentage and my manual 6th port switch (currently lacking an RPM switch), from 3000-4500 RPM or so there's very little difference between them open and them closed. Below 3000, you get more airflow with them closed, and above 4500 or so you get more airflow with them open. In that range, there's really no huge difference, so I think you'd be hard pressed to see any sort of effect from opening them other than at a fixed RPM in that range.
