some pics of my radio surround
It was in 8 pieces to begin with. After epoxying it back together. I basically wrapped the whole thing in fiberglass and used thick lexan for backing
Personally, I'd've brought the CD Player down some, unless you plan to install gagues later.
All and all, very nice job. It pains me sometimes that my S5 surround is covered in that rubberized crap. Makes it so, in order to do any custom work, I have to tear the **** outta it. Very Disheartening.
Good job though. Looks to be pretty quality work.

I'm open to criticism.
I wasn't sure how to get texture in it. Some one had already destroyed my change/asstray
so I covered it over. Atleast it is in one piece and the (cheep) radio mounts right to it, not like the kits you can buy. Well it works for now
Thanks to all who like it.

thats cool, i just cut a peace of oxidixed aluminum and covered up the upper air vents, i plan on putting my guages there, if you plan on taking out your ac pump and thoes vents don't matter much to you then it's good to just block thoes off, it gives you more space to put what ever there...

Go to home depot and get a fiberglass repair kit and play around, it's fun
Hi, I'm in the process of doing a similar type thing, only making room for a 5.6"LCD and a headunit. I'm guessing you just covered over the old bracket with some layers of fiberglass, right?
If not, how did you get it to fit in right and match up with the bolt locations?

If you put the CD player too low, you wouldn't be able to get the cd in/out when you're in 1st, 3rd or 5th.

i have my in the lowest positoin possible. and in 3rd you can not get a cd out, and in 5th you have to awkardly get one in and out.
personally i dont' care... i dont' change the CD every 5 mins anyhow... pretty much a cd stays in there for a month or two until i realize i should put something else in

I completly rebuilt the bottom half of the piece so that it is a gradual incline from the vents to the shifter piece rather than have it flat and then a quick curve.
It's a hell of a time trying to replicate the curves using Coke can boxes and not being too experienced with fiberglass!

watup guys im new here i just bought a 87 gxl a couple days ago for $1100 and i think igot ripped couse this thing was in preety fucked up conditions but i like rx7's so iguess im gonna keep it and fix it!
For just smoothing and filling texture I think its easier to use body filler and just use f glass to create new shapes. Fiberglass is a miracle product though. Fiberglass enabled me to pick from tons of different and affordable front ends for Integras for my RX7 not just the few and expensive ones for FC's! Also to finish pieces like that buildable primer works really well and is easier to get very smooth.
