Some Oil Leaks on my 89 GTU

I changed my oil this past weekend and found out where the oil on the garage floor is coming from. I plan to address these oil leaks on my S5 next spring and need some advice on where to get the parts I'll need.

The first is a leaking oil pan gasket. I assume I should be able to get it thru Mazda, and maybe most auto parts stores, but what is the best source for a good quality gasket? Anyone cut their own gaskets? I just changed oil and will do it at the next oil change.

Also found a pretty good leak around the oil cooler hoses on the driver's side of the oil cooler. I was able to find some info with a search of the 2 Gen archives but the info was 5-6 years old. Where to find the best OC hoses.

Any info is appreciated.

Get oil cooler hoses from a local hydraulics shop. Have them crimp new hoses onto your old fittings.

Cheaper and WAY easier to install the stainless steel lines, since teflon hose is WAY too stiff for this purpose.

Either use a Mazda gasket, or a high-quality liquid gasket like RightStuff or Hondabond. I wouldn't trust an oil pan to just plain old RTV. Just make sure to apply that stuff right or you're going to squeeze it all out and it's going to leak (again).

Bert,

you're sure it's the oil pan gasket and not the drain plug? Or the front cover leaking? And you can buy stainless steel oil cooler lines from I think corksport and a couple other manufacturers.

Yeah Ray, the drain plug is clean and dry but there is a small amount of oil seepage around the back and passenger side of the oil pan. It could be oil blowback from the leaking oil cooler hoses but I don't think so.

I'll try the HondaBond and be sure the gasket surfaces are well cleaned before I apply the sealer. Thanks Val for the recommendation. I'll also try and remember to tighten it back with a pattern to insure equal pressure all around.
