Mistakes you wished you hadn't made.
As some of you know I'm new to the forum. I been asking a ton of questions, and have received a ton of answers. Thanks for all the help.
As I have an un-molested 88' N/A I'd like to know what mistakes or mods that you've done that you wished you hadn't.
In the past I've had a number of cars and occasionally you think of something that sounds like a great idea at the time, that ends up costing money or performance. Like replacing the factory intake with a custom one, only to find out the factory one was better. lol
So I'd like to know what mistakes you've made or even some of the duh moments you've had along the way.

I am the stig.
Told the guy at AAMCO: "Yeah go ahead and pull it apart for a diagnostic."
They wanted $2000 to rebuild the transmission. I told them "hell no". $850 later I had a junkyard transmission I brought them, a new clutch, and resurfaced flywheel. (When I could have done it for $500 cheaper myself.) Lesson learned.
I also found out that you can take your Oil Cooler lines to a hydraulic shop and have new lines made for ~$50, instead of the $180 I paid for the Racing Beat ones. (For as far as I can tell, the same thing.)
You can do the same for brake lines, but they won't be DOT approved. Which isn't really acceptable for a street car.
My engine mounts didn't really need to be replaced, but meh.
I like my stainless brake lines, but it didn't make a huge difference, and it's debatable whether or not they're more or less durable.
One decision I absolutely do not regret is the Koyo radiator. These cars live and die by their cooling systems. (And detonation.) I have been nothing but pleased with that radiator.

I've had a few good ones... but they've been mostly over the course of doing the work myself. Check out this thread:

Back on the topic ..... With my first 7, I had thought it blew an apex seal .... I sell the car and I hear the guy bought new coil packs and it ran again. That was a HUGE kick in the ***, took $2500 from me.

my mistake...
painting the oil, rubber air-box snorkel, clutch fluid, and brake fluid cap's red, cutting a huge hole in my air box, getting caught going 118 in a 65 to 'test' the new tires and water pump, and trying to paint my tails when I was 14...
but just about all of that's fixedd

underestimating the amount of time/money repairs will take you
not having a DD
Buying new parts to replace supposedly broken parts that arent really broken, but you only find out they are broken after you spend $167 at napa and the problem isnt fixed.
not having my TII for my first car
