soldering the idiot light cluster..will pay

i know that soldering the connections usually fixes the cluster, but i sucks at that....
is there anyone on here that is experienced in that....maybe i could ship it to you and pay you like 20 bucks or something to do it and ship it back...
that would be awesome

It's not that difficult. I've done mine, wiper switch, and all, and some for a few others. The best suggestion I can make to you is when you desolder, either with a wick or desoldering tool, get half of old solder out, then resolder with new solder. Then remove all the old and new again. This will make sure you have a very clean connection and won't be leaving any of the old solder on the conncetions.

Normally the wick will suck it up but with the old brittle solder you may have to "tin" the wick with a little new solder. You may find it will be easier to go to radio ****...shack and get a hand held solder sucker. The whole process will go easier if you mix a little new with the old solder so it flows better. That will help with both the wick or sucker. Any brand of electrical solder will work fine. Don't try and do it with a big *** weller gun. A 15-25w iron will do just fine.

Hey IceMark, do you do wiper switches too?
I'm with Fitness Stain on this one, I don't have the slightest clue on how to solder anything, I know I would just make things worse. Tiny electronic stuff+my big clumsy hands=broken stuff.

Hey Fitness Stain,
I tried to PM you but I don't think it went out. Email me at mdodson@attbi.com and I'll see if I can help you out with the cluster.

Hey Fitness, I'd be more than happy to solder it for you. Only thing is, I don't have an FC to test it on. But I'll do it for 20 bucks no problem. PM me if you're interested. BTW, I'm in New York if thats an issue.

Yeah, I do wiper switchs too, with new heavy duty relays.

I also have a couple of rebuilt Logicons and FB01 CPUs ready to ship out right now.

I give a 6 month exchange limited warrenty on the Logicons and CPUs. However I do not cover fire or damage by liquids on either.

On the FB01 CPUs I also add a small circuit that turns on the door key and ignition key lights (if equipped or added) when the doors are open, simular to the FB05 CPUs found on the GXL, P package 'Verts, and T2s.

How much do you charge for the wiper switch fix, and how much for one of those CPU's? BTW, I have an '88 Vert if it makes any difference.

For an 88-89 'vert wiper switch I could do it for $40 including the new sealed heavy duty relay, + shipping (usually like $5-$8 anywhere in the continental USA).

For CPUs and Logicons, $30 with core (you send your old core too me, I send you back a rebuilt one, or I send you a rebuilt one, and when I receive your old one, I credit you $10 paypal) and $40 without core + shipping again.

PM me or email me if you are intrested.

soldering is easy. i just did mine the other night and it was my first time. i did it with the little sucker thing first butit was kinda too big to get all the solder but then i used the braided wire and that worked like a charm and now myclock and all the lights work just fine.
