So I went to check ECU Codes....

... Hoping to see if the ACV and TPS are truly dead. And also just to see what else is wrong (always something)

WELL... I took the single wire with the green plug and took a piece of wire and attached it to the neg terminal on the battery.

Went and turned the key to ON.

Well, the check engine light doesn't even come on, but the coolant light is blinking. Not giving numbers, just blinking randomly. It MIGHT have been giving numbers, but I was too worried why the hell the engine light wasn't coming on.

So I took out the wire going to ground, and went to turn the key to ON. All the lights go on solid, like usual... BUT NO CHECK ENGINE.

Now according to 1300cc.com it's the check engine light.

Should I be worried about this? This can't be normal.

SINCE YOU'RE HERE...

I checked the coolant sensor anyways (it would randomly go off for no reason) Is there a way to check it to see if it's working properly? The silver "probe" at the end is clean, no rust, and the wire is fine, but I dont know how it gets its measurement or whatever. Can I check it somehow?

Thanks,
Jon

Everytime you turn the key to the ON position before you start the engine, the Check Engine light should illuminate with or without the ECU check plug grounded. If you are not seeing that, I would check to see if the bulb is burned out.

The procedure to read out the engine fault codes works on my car ('91n/a) exactly like the FSM describes so I see no reason it wouldn't work on yours.

Good luck.

OH.... Well if you replaced the factory ECU with the Apexi then NO, the Mazda codes wouldn't work and nor would the procedure to retrieve them.

WOW

I AM A ******* IDIOT!!!!

Lower right hand corner is engine light right?

OMFG, I thought it was the check coolant light. LOL.

Ok, please delete this thread UNLESS

Can anyone tell me a way to check to see if my coolant sensor is good? The buzzer DOES go off. And for the thing to be THAT loud it has to be important (i.e. coolant)

It doesn't

It resets every time I start it up. It was really about 10:00 PM when I took that pic. I even set the freakin time that morning too.

Ok, nobody has answered my coolant sensor question... so I'm gonna make a new thread
