So I did her in

Noobs that doubt the powder of a n/a, be forewarned of wet roads. I started off easy in 1st and stabbed it, well once it hit its powerband the rear end got away from me and i went into the ditch and bent the front sub frame of my 7.

I'm gonna see if its fixable for a decent price, but i have a feeling it isn't because even the engine looks a little tweaked and the fenders are hosed

Had it for 3 weeks, so you new people that want 300whp right off the bat, learn from me, the 140ish from a stock s4 6 port is PLENTY enough to make you want to cry

It isn't the "power" of the s4... a guy on a figgin bicycle can loose control on a wet road... if you do something you aren't supposed to do.

Its all about balance, thats what Keiichi Tsuchiya said and he nailed it with that statement. But I agree 100% with you, 140 ponnies at the wheels is more than enough in the wet But it depends on your tyres too

You should've seen the battery i took out've it, it was out've a durango and was about ½ inch away from the pump.

So now i gotta make some phone calls, see how confident places are straightening the frame

Looking at it, I think you tweaked supports more than frame- but I'd have to look under it to be sure.

It might be fixable.

The 1st RX-7 i owned was a 91 S5 N/A. One day, driving down a highway in the rain, it completely hydroplaned, switched ends twice and totalled itself in the ditch. So, the next one I got (and still own) is a 87 S4 N/A. I researched tires and found ones that perform well on wet roads. Potenza G9's. I've traveled on wet roads with it but I'm still gun shy and don't try any extreme moves. These tires perform well on this car.

I'll keep that in mind, thanks

Well i got underneath it, drivers side frame rail looks good, passenger side got a little crinkled by the sway bar, but it doesn't look bad! So i think its repairable, gonna call a few shops next week and get some ideas on prices. No matter what i need fenders and a bumper, amazingly the hood survived :/ suprising for being a t2 aluminum hood. I'm tempted to rip the fenders off to try and save some dough at the shop, but idr what michigan laws are about driving w/o fenders

Take it to a body shop and see if they would just "spec it out".to see whether the frame is tweaked.
The car may look Ok,but can be Slightly off.
I got my frame straightened..(insurance auction purchase). The car had got hit in the front driver's corner. The shop said it was out an inch and dogtracked.
You couldn't feel it though when driving.

i really dig this post, not for your misfortune, but because it's a first person account of what i've tried to illustrate to so many new Rx-7 owners. most times it's ignored, other times i'm accused of being judgmental and, my personal favorite, "hating" on them (like ... really??? ).

when you think that the original Hyundai Excel had about half the power of an S4 Rx-7 (and was driven at the wrong end ) and it was more than enough to kill you, one can see that increasing power only insures your chances of hitting faster and HARDER once things go awry.

had a similar experience in the wet not too long ago, i got off lucky and there was no damage on the car. These cars just beg to be pushed until you push them too far, takes some maturity to drive them

Ya i can't drive it right now, the core support got bent enough that it shifted the fan shroud into the clutch fan and its not turning, so in order for me to "comfortably" drive it, i need to pull the shroud off

Thats why i said what i did, i've seen so many of them posts pop up under the new member section its been getting sickening, until you can handle 140 horse in a LIGHT rear wheel drive car, you sure as hell can't handle 300, especially since you normally lighten these cars somewhat to get to that power, if not at least completly change the weight of the car more towards the front, which makes the rear even more dangerous

I have offered similar warning for years. Get used to the dynamics of the car before getting into the 300 rwhp club. My car does well in the wet, or I learned the car.
