so....deciding what path to take...got any advice??

so....the miata is done and its time for my car...91 GTU...

the car isnt running and the whole idea and premise for the car is to build something fast but will keep a respectable life span, gas mlg isnt really that much of an issue but its would be nice to keep it in the double digits lol..

so what I'm curious is what would be the best path to creating the car into what we want it to be...and of course our options are pretty vast....but I wanna know what you guys think would be a good and sound route to take...here are some pics so u dont get bored reading....

a turbo II engine swap will increase the power, and if tuned correctly will last a long time

Fast is how fast you want it. I think 13's and 14's are fine. Others aren't happy running 8's. Its all a matter of your opinion.

I say:

Kahren streetport
SAFC
Full exhaust (with header)
Good clutch/flywheel
Suspension
Rest in safety mods (fuel, fixing ****)

That'll make a fun and respectable car imho.

this is a good list but i would take out the safc and go with ms or any other standalone.

adding to this if your gonna spend 10k why not 5k more for body work and wheels and tires? but if this is just a "fun" car then forget about this and spend it on the yata as it would be a way better daily driver even if it is smaller.

ps im a huge miata fan and looking to get one... got any links to pics or specs of yours

A MS or standalone usually has to be tuned by a professional. SAFC is something thats simple. With a standalone you have to A) Have a tuner. B) A knowledgeable tuner. C) a Rotary tuner. Not to mention a knowledgeable individual has to install it.

A SAFC can be done in a few hours with basic mechanical skills and its very simple to tune. The target A/F ratio has been posted thousands of times on this forum for an NA.

In that case a standalone gets expensive to take care of for a novice or average garage mechanic. Plus I think a dyno is essential in that case. 3 runs can cost $50 or $150 each. Depending on where you go.

Er. Stock ports? That means it was a j-spec? A few years or a few days.

If I had the money and wanted to do a TII swap in a s5 I'de:

S5 motor rebuild a streetported
Mircotech standalone EMS
FMIC from Greddy
Walbro
1000cc injectors in the secondary position
New clutch and possibly flywheel
TID
True CAI
Paralell fuel mod with FPR
BOV
New motor mounts, tranny mounts, and rear end mounts
Radiator
Full exhaust

That's good for 250-275HP reliabily without fuel issues with room to grow. Probably would get better MPG then stock also. Suspension could easily come next:

Shocks: KYB AGX, KYb GR-2, Tokico blues, illuminas, Koni and so on.

Springs: Tein S-Tech, Tanabe, Racing Beat, Intrax, Tokico, Suspension Techniques, Eibach and so on.

But then after that good tires and you can go on and on.

For 10K?

Rebuilt S5 13BT (or an RE)
Full turbo (T04B or similar)
Haltech/Microtech
4x1000cc injectors
Bosch 044 pump
Greddy intercooler
Clutch of your choice
Bushing kit, toe eliminators
Sticky tires
