So confused about split air pipe. please help

I have a 87 Turbo II. I already blocked off the acv and egr valves. I have straight pipe, so i don't have any cats. Do i need my split air pipe or not? Some people say yes, because they open the ports, others say you don't need it. I want the car to run good and to produce as much power as possible.

If i do need it will it work if i just weld it into the straight pipe?

TII's do not have 6 ports, only the NA's. You do not need the pipe. 86 the air pump also.

what i am still trying to find a solid answer on is if there is any air injected to the exhaust ports at WOT.

i know there is no air going to the split air pipe, but how about the ports?

thanks!

No there is no air going to the split air pipe or the exaust ports BECAUSE, you said you removed acv.

I've driven many miles with no split air pipe on and the hole where the split air pipe would be fed was wide open. There is no air coming out BECAUSE you removed the acv.

There's a free, low cost FSM online with schematics of the ACV. Or I can sell you the picture for five bucks less shipping (I'm serious, I need money. Send money...anybody. Prefer the U.S. Dollar.

The dollar's down, how about sending you Euros?

Why don't you put your expertise to work and open up an RX-7 shop? I might actually come and visit if I ever decide to go turbo, lol...

Blue plug from what? One of the solenoids on the rack?

Easiest way to figure out if any air is flowing into the split air pipe is to disconnect the pipe just above the check valve, then feel for any air under different throttle conditions coming from the supply pipe...

it made my idle AFRS dop to normal... (11.8 AFR)

but my WOT readings still seem lean... for a na...

I see. I read YOUNGLORD and thought it was FOID.

Yes. Do what Wayne said. If the Blue Relief Solenoid plug IS connected up you will feel air out the split air pipe at certain times when you rev the engine.. If the Blue plug is off.......I don't expect you to feel any air. This is for a series four non-turbo engine.

Ok, I give in. I'll accept Euros and the British Pound. See? I compromised.

Just in case......the test/trick, of removing the Blue plug from the Relief Solenoid only werks on non-turbo cars. NOT turboii's.

hailers -

i understand without the blue plug conencted (man this subject is getting old) that there will be no air going to the split air... but how about the exhaust ports @ WOT??? -- if the exhaust ports still inject air, this could be altering my AFR;s, and in which case i would like to figure out a way to stop it, besides removing the airpump/acv

No there won't be any air going to the exaust ports if the BLUE connector is off on a series four non-turbo. Look at theschematic of the air control valve in the series four fsm and you'll see that if there is no vacuum put on the relief diaphram that the internal poppet valve will cover the passage to the exaust ports.

P.S. Even with the plug on, at 3800rpm the acv puts a ground on the Blue solenoid and dumps the air overboard preventing air from going to the exaust ports. You can do that in the driveway of you house. Just pull the large hose off the bottom of the acv and rev the engine. ;At 3800 rpm the air will exaust out the acv instead of the exaust ports.

I run a wideband with the acv and without the acv at different times. I see no difference in afr b/t the two situations.
