so call me stupid

just curious how you hook up a external tach

trying to play with a few things but I need a tach hooked up under the hood so I don't have to go look at my dash everytime I change something

I know on my old camaro it would have a wire nut that was exposed but I am not seeing that here

so what do I hook it up to?

Yellow wired pigtail bullet connector on trailing coil pack. It's yellow on my '87. Might be different on a series 5.

There should be nothing hooked to it right now.

Yep, this is the one to go for. Mazda put it there to hook up a diagnostic tach, so it's perfect. Get 12V from any switched source that's handy.

BTW, what's wrong with the stock tach?

Now that I look harder, the yellow wire has a blue stripe. The yellow is almost faded to white.

The bullet connector and Yellow/Blue wire come out of a harness that goes to the trailing coil pack.

Find the white connector(s) that are on the trailing coil pack. Follow the wire harness and find an open bullet connector.

Crappy image below. I have my boost controller ghetto'd into that wire with tape.

Even better... that same yel/Blu wire can be found at the power steering computer under the dash on the drivers side, or at the back of the cluster, so you don't have to run out under the hood.
