My newly aquired TII is smoking off boost at higher RPMs. For example, get on it, boost hits, let off, and blue/black smoke comes out the exhaust. I assume this is a sign of control rings going, but I'm planning a rebuild for this summer so no big. Just want to make sure that's probably what it is.

The car has been sitting in a garage for 3 years, so it really wouldn't surprise me.

 

sounds like oil rings. an oil change could help if it's the same oil from years ago.

 

Quick question. When we are saying "oil rings," is that the o-rings, or the carriers?

 

Might be the turbo, mine smokes off boost some times. Easy way to tell is if you take the coupler off the inlet side of the intercooler and if you see oil swirled around then it is your turbo if not it is proabably a internal oil seal.

 

Another quick question as far as rebuilding goes.... what if I order these two kits, will I have just about everything (aside from manifold gaskets, etc.) to pop the motor open and rebuild it as good as it will get this side of new housings and such?
