Question Smog Help =P

I have a 87 GXL that is in pretty good condition but the dreaded smog test came up this year . Does anyone know of any additives or anything i can do to help it along with the smogging in California?

I heard if you add a bottle of 'heet' water remover stuff or whatever.....if you put one or 2 of those in your gas tank it will help it burn cleaner, cuase its just pretty much alchohal.

Or just use rubbing alcohol. I dont know what the gas/alcohol mix is.

what I have heard is people running the tank down to like 1/8, then putting a few bottles in, then heading STRAIGHT to the emissions station. After the test, they fill back up to dilute the sauce.

Or try GTP (Garaunteed to Pass)

Yeah i have heard about HEET helping but wasnt sure have you tried GTP? What other addtives are good for driving and engine preformance not for smog? I used to put HyperLube in my old mazda 626 and i was like a new engine. Is there anything that would hurt the rotary I wanna be careful.

I'd definately avoid ANY oil additives. If they worked, the top chemically engineered oils (Mobil 1 etc.) would include similar ingredients already.

if your cats are in good working order...make sure they are heated up nice and toasty so they will be working to their fullest. if you take the car in cold it spits out tons of crap. i drive the heck outta my car before takin it in. had no problems.

smog help

When I had to worry about such things (no emission testing in my part of the coutry) I would run the tank down to 1/8 and add a couple of gallons of ethanol. This is available at hardware stores. After passing the test with flying colors go immediately to a gas station and fill up. Turn the boost down, if your car is a turbo. I took it really easy going to the test station since I did not know what effect this mixture may have on the engine, but it never hurt my TII.
