Smelling exhaust fumes.

I just bought my Rx-7 last week and I started to smell the exhaust fumes when my window is rolled down. Just did a major tune up and changed the o2 sensor. The car does have a greddy exhaust and RB headers. So I am thinking it might be my cat. Well please help me with my exhaust fume problem because the fume gives me a headache after driving awhile. Thank You.

Were new gaskets used on the install of the components?

I'd ask the previous owner, most likely the gaskets were reused, i'd try replacing them, as long as you have a cat, if you dont have a cat anytime you stop youre gonna smell stuff anyway. The engine to header, the header to cat gasket, the cat to the y pipe and the y pipes to the mufflers. Also if there is any rust anywhere check for holes, but more than likely it is a gasket, you can probably go to napa and have them size the used ones.

gaskets just look at the racing beat website instead of trying to do the guess work of sizing them .

So racing beat knows what size to use for the greddy exhaust system??????

Taking the old ones off and going to napa would take less time.

Is SpooledupRacing a good seller? Just wondering because he offer me to sell brand new gaskets. Sorry I am new to the forum so I don't know who is trustable. Where is the store in Napa? If I bring in my old ones, are they going to make some new ones for me? Sorry I am a newb. =D Thank You for all the quick responses.

Yeah but I dont think aftermarket exhaust dont give out super bad fumes. I mean when its at idle i can smell it ALOT. That is not normal right? Even with a aftermarket exhaust.

if cat is cloged u coud be getting leaks through old gaskets.

if its cloged the car could run hotter than normal . or have a lack of power but u just got the car so i wouldnt image u "know" what its norm is

Napa has many gaskets and can size them up to something in their inventory, spooled up racing is a good guy whatever he has if it fits will be good.

So to be on the safe side should I change my cat first or just the gaskets?

My shift boot is a little rip, so I was wondering if fumes can enter up the shift linkage?

probably bad gaskets, unless you have multiple large leaks.

That's partially the nature of the car, too. they tend to give a strong smell of exhaust and unburned gas.

Oh, and buy from SpooledUp, if you can. dude has a great reputation.
