slow rev no horsie

Hi I have no idea whats going on with my car. It struggles to rev high, sometimes rpm bounces 3k - 5k and will only go over if i hold the gas for less than 10 seconds i guess. i dont know what it is, i dont even think the 5'th and 6th ports are kicking in as far as i know they are not. i havent ran it for several months, last time i did it was night and dark out i had the shift boot off and i could see the cats and presilencers were glowing near orange lol.

it can hardly make it up a hill in 1st and struggles. any idea of what the problem could be? all i can come up with is the following:

clogged cats is my first guess but i dont know, its random sometimes it will rev like it should but only for a little bit and back to the same thing.

i hate to admit this, but there is 2 green wires running under the trans about a foot away from the starter they are both not connected i fucked up that one. i think they are for the 3k iaccellerated startup
and if this helps, my idle is sometimes 3k and it doesnt go down on its own. but then sometimes it does go down wtf i dont get it.

and the last one is, there is a rod between the alternater and intake its not connected right now. i really dont think it was when i first got the car. i dont know what its for. one last thing, when i shut her off and parked there was smoke coming from the muffler but not out of it i couldnt see where it was coming from so i opened the hatch and put my hand over where the fuel pump/float area it was really hot.
this is why i think its something with the exhaust maybe that rod unleashed some goo into the cats who knows. any questions please ask them whatever you think it might be.

Wow, that is really hard to read.

I'd suggest pulling the cats off, and inspecting them. I had a broken cat, with pieces flying about, and it caused some major issues. After gutting it, it ran fine, so I got a new cat and all was well. Also, check your timing, and make sure your TPS is in spec, which should help with your idling and what appears to be a 3k hesitation problem. Also, double check your grounds at your battery, which could be another culprit. Finally, check compression if you are able.

I'd look through the FAQ and grab the FSM and Haynes manual to check over everything under the hood. Sounds like poor maintenance upkeep.

Try pulling codes from the ECU.

The rod between the alternator and intake is to your OMP. Unless you're running premix, you're gonna want to have that connected. The hooked part on the end connects to the throttle body, there's a small cylindrical piece with a hole in it on the front side of the throttle body that the rod goes into and is secured with a pin (a short piece of wire will do the job)

I could hardly make it up a hill in 1st, when one rotor was doing nothing. Which a friend of mine badly misdiagnosed as an exhaust problem at first, until I searched this forum, and did a compression test after reading a ton.

Just sayin'..... might want to check it.

You might think running on one rotor would be much worse, but I made it 150 miles on it.

Oh, forgot to mention - it did rev very slow, basically had to shift at 5-6k to get any acceleration in the next gear at all, which would start at 3-4k. Cat (mod exhaust) was glowing a little and center console was VERY hot.
