Personally I think its pretty tacky, but if you are interested there were several threads a while back. Search for sleepy eye. Basically you just run a circuit interruptor to the retractor motor.

it requires two people to do this, have a buddy turn your headlights on for you, but right when he does stand by the engine bay and remove a fuse out of the fuse box (can't remember which fuse it is, i think the 13A one) and when the lights go up as soon as you pull the fuse they will stop. It might take practice to get it right the way you want it.

I personally think it's pretty mean looking, but i'd rather have one of those controllers from the **** pit to do it.

Goodluck

Or you could just pull the fuse out and then just wind them up/down with the manual winders all you want.

Why you'd want to make your car look broken is beyond me...

The only appeal I can see to this mod is just being "different".
I guess this is the RICER mentality.

i think it can look pretty sweet, car dependent. and i am far from a ricer. now whether the fc looks good with it, i wouldn't know. can't you just adjust the stops? do you really need a $100 controoler just to do something this simple?

I agree, while I doubt I'd do it to my car it DOES look nice on some cars. I would hardly say a ricer thing (how many ricer cars have pop up headlights???). That word it truly thrown around way to often when in actuality it's just something "YOU" don't like. Just say that instead of immediately saying ricer...I dislike ricer things, but not everything you don't like is ricer.

Oh yea, I also agree I don't really see a need for a controller since it's pretty simple.

The control unit allows you to adjust from 0 to 100 perctnt. You can have them up a little or alot. Not just staying up by pulling the fuse.

I think they were quite smart. Just because it's "JDM styling", doesn't mean it actually looks good...

The only problem I see with the "sleepy eye" wihtout a controller (besides the fact that night visibility is GREATLY affected) is that when your lights are actually off your headlights DO look broken!!

However when they are on, it looks OK in my opnion. Now I wouldn't spend $100 bucks on a switch, and let's not even talk about doing the fuse trick everytime I turn on\off the headlights!!

KNONFS is right. One of my friends did the sleepy eye to his 96 Probe, and it looked pretty cool. Unfortunately, his fog lights were brighter than his high beams. Because of the lack of visibility, I wouldn't try do. He did his so they could still shut. I'm not for sure how, but he didn't have a switch or anything. I'll have to ask him.

I bought 1/2 height H4's from Sylvania, all you do is shorten the main link arm from the drive motor to the light assembly and refabricate the housing to sit flush with the new height and retain the light assembly .. the FC is easy becuse the light stays perpendicular to the road always.. I've got a MK III supra that has the std. rotary flip up and it was a pain in the *** to do this with as you had to re angle the whole light assembly to be flat when it reached the 1/2 height

sleepy eye is not rice when done right , using a 1/2 height light and simply lower the profile of the pop up, reducing the huge drag you get when they are up, in the daylight the lights are down and lokks normal, how is that rice? Is the Tokyo auto Salon style rice to you as well?

Okay we have been through this before this is not rice. Has anyone except me seen the badass drifters in Japan do it to there cars? Those cars are not rice. So with that said, there is nothing wrong with sleepy eye mode.

god, quit fighting over whether or not this is "rice." if you don't like it, say it's ugly, or it's stupid, or it's useless and serves no purpose, but please show some intelligence by using a word other than rice!! the point of this mod is to make your car look more sleek at night, although it may offer some aerodynamic improvement, it's not enough to make a difference and nobody is doing this mod for that anyways. as far as the drifters go, are you going to follow everything that they do just because they're famous drifters? have you seen their teeth? i'm going to throw away my tooth brush and toothpaste now because the cool drifters have bad hygiene and i want to be like them. why don't you go eat tofu burgers because everyone in hollywood is doing it? just because they're famous doesn't mean that you should copy everything that they do. have your own damn personality for god's sake, quit trying to pose off other people. if you like it, do it, if you don't, leave them alone.

Edit: this is my 500th post, wahoo, what a way to cross make the 500 mark.
