sleepy eyes

disconnect your power headlights and adjust the bolt on the motors to the height you want. find some bulbs that fit i.e; (smaller, or driving lights, they usually come with mounts) and attach them to your stock lighting harness.. its as simple as that. it only took me about two hours total with trial and error on the bulb harness.... looks sick.. and good luck

I don't get it... what are the bulbs for?

I just took out the Retractor fuse, went under the car, took off the rubber cover from the headlight retractor motor, turned the knob to raise the headlight where I wanted it, put the cover back on, and called it a day. So... what are the bulbs for?

Richter12x2 08-20-07 11:05 AM

Mostly so you don't look retarded with 1" of a big flat rectangle sticking up, would be my guess. :D

- Truthfully though, your headlights are aimed to be correct with it fully raised - you would use smaller bulbs, like projectors, for an even cleaner look AND to get the right amount of light in the right place on the road.

red_s5_fc3s 08-20-07 11:10 AM

Oh, I see. Kind of like what JTP did to his drift car. What would be nice is if you modify the bracket, so when you turn off your headlights they go all the way down, and when you turn them on, they raise up to the hieght that you want.

Richter12x2 08-20-07 11:15 AM

I'm pretty sure the arms that make them go up and down have some adjustment built into it, too. I don't know how much lower it would end up, but that way the motor would still drive it up and down.

red_s5_fc3s 08-20-07 11:54 AM

Exactly. I know they made kits like that for the miata. It basically made the car look stock when the lights were down, but when you turned on the headlights, they popped up halfway and it had 2 projectors, 1 high and 1 low beam.

CyberPitz 08-20-07 12:15 PM

The way I do the sleepy eyes is by using the switch to just raise/lower your headlights without turning the bulbs on, well, I put them all the way up, then I take the switch and lower it ever so slowly. When they finally start to go down, quickly move it back up a tiny bit, and the switch should stick there.

I find that easier than messing with bolts :p

Oh yeah, and welcome to '06! It's like I'm back in time!!!

I can't believe people start talking about aerodynamics when it comes to the sleepy eyes. I really don't think that is a logical argument. How many people are going that fast to really slow the car down? An argument you could make is that it makes the car look ugly, but that's more of an opinion. The only valid argument would be that you can't see worth shit at night.

The force of drag will be higher.. even at highway speeds. That is a fact, however will it be significantly nodicable? probably not. More over you will need more energy from the engine to make up for the extra drag at a constant speed, higher gas consumption.. nodicable? probably by a few miles per tank.

Over all it doesnt hurt anything, besides looking hidious and making your car look slightly more entropic.

I still don't understand why people love "sleepy eyes" so much. If you're that serious about the headlights not going up as far, make some sort of custom setup for the headlights using a different set of bulbs instead of making the car look like a broken pile of shit. The only cars I've ever seen with this "mod" is people that have broken retractable headlights. And about people modding their cars the way they want - this is all and good, but have you honestly seen some of the shit that turns out from people that don't know any better? This is the reason we have so many EK Civics running around with huge aluminum wings, Altezza tailights, mesh in their front bumpers, and worthless hood scoops. Also, if you're thinking this is going to make your car look like an old Ferrari, get fuckin' real. :icon_no2:

Do the mod the right way. PM Need-a-t2 and he may make you a kit. Can be used at full hight, or you can purchase the shortened arms and make them true sleepy lights that function like stock.

Don't forget the worthless roof scoops!

No. Not to do this right.

red_s5_fc3s 08-20-07 01:36 PM

juiceh, I haven't looked at that thread in a while. I'm assuming all the fitment issues have been resolved? I remember reading something about the depth of the lights or some kind of bolt that rubs on the bumper.

Get the point? This topic brings those of us who are not generaly "search Nazi's" to tears of frustration... it makes life here on the forum a lot easier to cope with. Just think if we had 1 sleepy eye post instead of 130 of them how much easier it would be to find info on making this pitiful mod... And I searched "sleepy eye" you can also search "lazy eye" add a "z" to the end of eye if your really cool or just plain "sleepy"...

Fitment is all good. I believe if there was any rubbing the headlight assembly bolts just needed to be loosened so the assembly could be pushed back all the way then there was no rubbing. That fixed it for me. :D

For all you anti-sleepy eye people.
Its free, it doesn't hurt, it doesn't matter. Who cares?
I don't think it looks good on anything other than a S13 chassis
but i don't post in everything single thread hating on it.

You guys hate on that so bad, calling it the 'drifter style'
What do you call a 4x4 ride height, using fwd offset wheels.
' rx7club style? ' :)

I spy something is wrong here. OP didn't get flamed...

Wanked_FC 08-20-07 05:07 PM

I propose an official name change for the mod "sleepy eyes" to "broken eyes".

djmtsu 08-20-07 05:07 PM

Sleepy eyes are gay and make your car look broken.

Happy.
