Slave Cylinder Just lost it on me

Strangest thing..

has this ever happend to anyone before?

I was driving.. pedal became softer and softer, and wouldn't spring back..
then clutch just stayed on the floor left me stranded

popped the hood, fluid was gone.. So i thought no big deal... filled it back up, pedal was still messed up..

so I guess it was time for a bleeding on the side of the road... (good thing the slave cylinder is on top of the tranny...

I went to loosen the nipple and WTF?!?

the whole slave cyl assebly was jiggling.. it wasn't tight to the tranny!
I tightened the Top bolt, no problem
but the Bottom bolt spins Freely... some how the thread has Stripped itself!

is this common, or is my tranny a freak of nature?? how the hell did it strip itself just sitting there?

has anyone ever worked on your slave cyl before? could be the wrong size bolt, sometimes that, combined with vibrations, can cause your bolt to become a stripper.

If it was loose, it may have been having to push the piston out a longer and longer distance to make the clutch release. If it pushes the piston out far enough, it'll start leaking out the end.

u guys think I can just screw a larger bolt in and "tap itself" as it goes

or do I have to drop the tranny and re Tap it and re-install it? (aweful lotta work just for a bolt )

If you want it to hold, yes it needs to be retapped. This same thing happened to me when I put an engine in last summer.

Went to start the car and the engine wouldn't even turn over. The replacement bolt I used was too long and fit quite nicely between the teeth on the flywheel, locking the engine.

Live and learn some days. Just make sure your replacement bolt is the same length.

well I re tightened the bolt and guess what? Nothing..
I tried bleeding the clutch, but i couldn't build any pressure in the system...

so I have a new theory...

the Slave cylinder has been loose for a while, but was still working and I never noticed...
and it's either the Master or Slave cylinder that's shot.. and not holding pressure...

What's more likely to crap out? the master or slave? (the slave looks like a Real bitch to remove while it's still in the car)
