Slack in the rear

I have some driveline slack on my S5 convertible and i'm having a hard time figuring out what is causing it. Currently my driveshaft and mounts are ok, but i'm still getting some slack between the time the driveshaft engauges the half-shafts. Any help is very appreciated. Thanks.

sounds like differential ring gear wear, but do you really wanna take off your diff and poke inside and measure clearances?

With the car in the air, and "e" brake on if wheels off the ground, trans in neutral, get ahold of the driveshaft and turn it back and forth. You'll probably see the yoke turning, indicating worn gears and out of spec.

Have you checked the front diff mount? They have a tendancy to break, allowing the diff to rotate and this would feel like driveline slack. It usually is accompanied by a banging noise in the back. That's what I'd check, unless you're talking not about driving feel, but an actual measurable slop between the driveshaft and the halfshafts.
