Single Muffler, or Dual?
Now I've hit a dellema should I ditch my current RB 2.5id down pipe for the RB 3id, and get the presilencer, and go single? I know its wieght advantages, but is there more if not the same power produced as a dual cat-back?, I'm thinking of just buying the downpipe and presilencer and just going to a muffler shop and getting them to connect a pipe from the presilcencer to a single muffler. though duels look so nice on our cars........

And yet another thread on single or dual, a life long debate that will never have a conclusion...
Id go single especially on a turbo, ive read and have been told how well turbos can spool up using a single.
Single is lighter, easier to install, less expensive and makes plenty of power depending on the size.
I have a single for my N/A and i love it it sounds sooo good and the wieght savings, money saving, eaise of installation were well worth it for me
Thats my .02cents

Can't wait for zyounker and NZConvertible to see this.
If noise is not a concern, single. If you like a quiter car that still has the same level of performance, dual. Its as easy as that. On a daily driven car the extra weight of the two mufflers is of little concern.

I think this is a very good point that people overlook when modifing their cars. You have to build it for it's purpose. You can lighten the car but if it is primarily a street car what happens when you get in a race and you have a passenger. Which seems to happen about 90% of the time

I'd love to have all the pro-dual exhaust folks over someday and make them take off and remove a dual exhaust a few times - it's a ROYAL bitch to install and remove a dual.
Single N1? It's a piece of CAKE to install and remove. Best thing is there's a number of things you can actually leave it in the car for - removing the driveshaft and dropping the tranny come to mind, you can actually leave the exhaust on the car!
I think Mazda should have done a single exhaust to begin with. I think they went dual primarily for looks - that was a big '80s thing, dual chrome tips.
Anyhow, I think either can look good. Single is cheaper and easier to deal with maintenance-wise, and dual is more expensive, harder to install/remove, but you get a can on each side of the car.

yes my car will be a daily driven car mainly for woopen up on Domestic V8s, and noise is a concern since I have gotten 2 exhaust noise tickets in the past 6 months, how about a a 3in single to the 3in presilencer, to my generic SS 3A racing muff, how loud? I would like to keep both muffs and run duel but i can't find a decent cheap y-pipe.....also how much better is a full 3in exhaust compared to a 2.5in?

Great point. The 100+ lbs you worked so hard to lose just sat right back down in your passenger seat.
and yes, if i didnt have a girlfriend, that seat would already be out

Extra 100# on top of the stock weight? What are you making your exhaust out of? Lead. If your talking about a true dual system, which I'm not, then yes it is more but still not 100#. On a cat back sysem probably 20-30# more than a single catback if made properly.
