Sidemarkers issue, switch?
So here's what's up.
Sometimes my sidemarkers won't light up.
And I mean, the entire illumination circuit. No dash lights, no tails, no markers, the clock doesn't dim (well, the clock dims, but it has nothing to do with the position of the switch).
The switch will still actuate my headlights. But not the illumination.
Seemed at first to be related to the brake lights. Seems there might be a bit of a short in there somewhere. I don't know.
Here's what I'm planning to do.
I'm gonna pull the radio back out and check if there is 12v on the illum (red+blk) wire with the switch on. If there isn't, there is likely to be an issue at a fuse or the switch. If there is, then I'll be damned as to what's going on.
On with if there's no voltage, then, I have a possible solution. Or a couple.
I could run a fused wire from the battery directly to that illum wire. Would applying voltage to that wire be enough to give me my illumination and sidemarkers back?
If not, I have another idea, but it's a bit more involved.
Short of replacing the switch, I could intercept it's wiring and add a relay that applies 12v fused from the battery, signaled by the acc wire from the radio wiring harness.
Shortest solution: connect illum wire in radio harness to acc wire of radio harness.
Would this bandaid my problem?
