I think both styles look good. The best 86-88 lights I've seen were painted to match the car.

You have to "ding" the metal a bit where the connector for the bulb closest to the license plate sits... otherwise, yup, a straight bolt-in. You need the center section around the license plate too. Also, convertible and hardtop lights are different.

Hey, I did the switch on my car, it's fairly easy. It's best to cut the metal out instead of bang it, you dont distort the rest of it that way.

The licence plate illumination on the later style lights intrudes into the metal of the 86-88 body, you will see when you make the switch. Make sure to cover this with rust inhibiting paint after you cut/grind it out.

I have been looking for a set of them. Does anyone know where i can get the whole set of round tails that will work on a 88 vert?

copartfinder.com, ebay.com, or one of the "parts" email distributed lists/sites.

On copartfinder.com, you'll notice when you search for mazda allot of mazda salvage yards pop-up. That's the best way to get a list.
