should i turbo my 86 base?

Hi ive been going back and forth on this one lately. I have a 86 base,4 lug. I just put a new engine, complete wiring harness. Now assuming everything works fine ive been thinking of turboing my car. I already have the gp drift body kit in the mail. I have about 1500,2000 to work with. I was thinking since i have a new n/a motor in it, turbo it with TII mainfolds as described before on here and other forums. I have a really good conneciton on aftermarket turbo, manifold and other misc stuff for turbo(boost controller, turbo timer etc). I could probably get away with everything i need minus TII tranny and 5lug conversion for right around 1300 or so. Now what im wondering is if its really worth it. My car is already lowered, has better wheels on it with 2.5 exhaust. I dont want to sell and start over. Ive done alot of work to this car. Ive put a brand new all black interior in it as well. Its my baby. If anyone wants to throw in there opinion i would appreciate it thanks,
kevin.

It really depends. If you're up to scavenging all the parts nessicary and have the money to back it up, go for it. I'm about half-way through the parts collection process myself, it just bugs me everytime I look at the manifolds, turbo, FMIC, and electronics laying on my floor knowing that I still need a half-dozen other significant parts.

If you're wanting reliability, keep it NA.

Do a TII swap, or buy a TII and part out your base.

yah move those parts. Maybe he has a drinking problem and his rx7 parts keep him motivated to not drink lol jke. I checked out 1300cc.com that is a lot of money for that i mean yeah its awesome but i can get a whole TII jdm engine for that much. Ive looked for a good condition TII car around here but i cant find one for under 5000. I found one that someone might be selling, it doesnt start though, something is wrong with the title as well. It was her fathers car or some crap, blah.

The real question is "How much you are willing to spend"? It is cheaper to do the T2 conversion (I am speaking from experience) and probably easier.
I decided to be different and Turbo my NA. I am very happy with it! However, I find myself investing more money because the power I am producing is to much for the NA tranny, driveshaft and differencial. So I ended up buying a T2 for parts.

If you have to ask, then don't do it.

I also worry a little about the turbo kits. I wonder how many people who have NO CLUE what they are doing are going to buy them and promptly pop their engines?

I am Turboing my n/a with the whole Tii drivetrain, and the Tii manifolds, injectors, ecu and harness. its going to be sweet. I am going to race a guy with a stock Tii to see how much faster it is with the higher compression and all.

hey aaron i appreciate you're kind words lol. Geez i think coming on here and asking questions is better than just diving in and blowing my motor. Either way if i do end up doing this ill be more informed then i was previously. I really dont know alot about turbo cars or cars in general but im willing to try it out. Thanks for all the help,
kevin.

Then you need to do some reading and research before you take on a project like this. Until the kits are actually produced, you need to fab almost everything yourself. Then know how to tune it properly. So it's best to be familiar with the RX-7, turbo systems, and basic tuning before you proceed. If you just want a turbo car, then do a "proper" TII swap, or just buy a Turbo II.
