Smile Should I sell my TII and go old school?

Well, I'm caught in a bind at the moment. I love my 87 TII, it's my baby. Pretty straight but a little rough around the edges, but overall, a great car. I've been looking through receipts and checking **** out on my car and it turns out i'm still running on the stock engine with 117k miles on the clock. I know that time is running out and my slowly modding it won't help matters at all. Plus, constant drifting and an aging suspension are also adding to my problems. Right now in the condition it's in, I have been offered $4200.

My plans were calling for a new street ported engine, T3/T4 hybrid, haltech, etc. But I came across a potential new project... a MINT '74 RX-4.

It's been through a 3 year resto from the ground up... new wheels, tires, rear end, full suspension, brakes, tranny, streetported 12a w/holley intake and header back exhaust, body work, interior w/leather lexus buckets, new paint... It's perfect in every way and has about 900 miles on the entire setup. The guy wants a little over 3k for it. I don't think I can pass it up. I'll be able to drive it while I save up the rest of the money and eventually do the same swap on it that I was planning for the TII. Plus, I'd be shedding, what, 500 lbs at least over the TII and be different in the process.

What would you guys do?
thanks
steve

I'm not familiar with the eariler RX's. What's the specs on it? Sure looks sweet and muscular.

I know I'd like one of the FB3S Gen I's with the 13B engine that's for sure.

So on the FC - do you just need new shocks, springs, and bushings? Made my 92 TII feel OEM new.

If you can't afford both - tough call.

i would buy the rx4 and keep the t2. I purchased a mint condition rx4 and have been slowly restoring it. I can tell you first hand that the rx4 weighs in at 3500 lbs. you will NOT be shedding any weight. if anyone here was at sevenstock it was the only one in the show. my girlfriend loves that rx4 way more than the t2. i like it because its old school and no one around here has one. if you can afford to have both go for it. but if you love your t2 keep in mind the rx4 was mazda's first attempt at a luxury car

i was thinking about doing the same thing, but what stoped me is that i have no idea how those things drive.

is it going to handle like an old 70's boat, or can you actually get out and have some fun? hit those twisty mountain roads in style?

you know what, you can buy a t2 anywhere at anytime. go ahead and get the 4. do the mods you want and if you want another t2 get it later.

If you are a true rotary enthusiast you WILL buy this car.
The only RX-4 I ever saw was rusted out and shitty. For 3K I think its a steal. Judging by the pictures I would say its been done right, plus it has some good performance mods on it. Buy it!!! everyone and their sister has an FC these days.

Does the '4 have the round taillights? If so then note thats where the series 5 took its styling cue from.

Read my title.

I've never been a big fan of the RX-4, but I'd get it anyway. $4200 for your TII is knocking someones head off, I'd sell it and walk home if I had to.
