Should I put the turbo hood on the N/A?
Should I put the turbo hood on the N/A?
I know that some of you guys have a debate about having a turbo hood on an N/A. As for me, I could care less. The hood would be on for a few weeks, until the TII is running. It just seems like such a waste to have a turbo hood laying around...

I use to like the TII style more. Since I've had the TII, I've started to like the N/A hood better. From a performance standpoint, the TII hood is usually lighter, but it increases the CD .01.
Hell yeah! I have it on the N/A beast. Got it b/c the junkyard had it at a good price, and it took the place of the stock steel hood. Not only does it look nice, it saves weight and provides the engine with more air to keep it cool. Why not! Who cares about what other people say about "rice", the term is so over used half the people have no idea about the real gains from weight and cooling.

I swapped on a steel TII hood onto my N/a, mostly cuz I have TII withdrawl symptoms while I go through the To4e transformation..Something about that bump when looking through the windshield..
But there is a monster change in the temps on the n/a, if it idled for a long time in traffic, it use to get hot, with the TII hood, it never goes over 1/2 which is pretty interesting, if you look at the car after driving, you can see the heat waves basically billowing out the hood scoop..Max

*cough* no *cough* rice *cough*..
On my TurboII when I get a FMIC I'm actually going to REMOVE my TurboII hood in favor of a normal aluminum hood (or something lighter if the opportunity presents itself and it looks perfectly stock).
Not that I don't like the look of the hood, just that it'll more probably increase underhood temps for no good reason, and it's really not in use once I get a front mount, so in my book, that's rice.

Yo,
If you want to fool people into thinking you have a TII, go for it!! Every Civic hatch with a B16A that walks you will post, "D00dz, I smoked a Rx7 tubro ii!!" on ClubSI. Man, those plusses keep adding up! *cough*

And don't mind the poll, it was cooked early on.

now I'm not a rotory specialist, but I do know that they tend to run alot hotter than most any piston motor. and if my sitting in traffic in my eight-six didn't prove to me how fast a car sitting still can get hot, then I know you want as much air to be able to flow from under the hood (moving or not). even if you are utilizing a FMIC I'm sure that the extra air from the tII hood hitting the intake track (which still sits under the scope, right?) can always be helpful. If I was going to change hoods, I would want to go with either a reverse vent or a drop-vent hood to aim in engine cooling. a NA hood isn't going to aid in cooling, and the hotter the motor, the less HP you're going to make.

Not true at all. The coolant temperatuire should be about the same. Exhaust temperature is what is hotter.

Which would be nice if air flowed into the hood. Remove the intercooler and.... guess what! Air flows out of the scoop.

Agree on the hood choices, add a cowl vent hood in there as well.
As for an NA hood or a TII Hood, while... they won;t make a lick o' difference to engine temps.
As for "Hotter engines make less horsepower"... this is also not necessarily true. All motors have a temperature at which they make optimum power levels. The temps of which that most affect power output is cooler intake air charge temperature, rather than engine operating temperature.
it just seemed like a waste to me to have a silver tII hood kickin' it in my garage when I have a silver RX7 that it could go on for a few weeks. I think I'll spend the time and energy that I would have spent on swapping hoods on getting the car together that much quicker.
