Should i put the engine on a diet?

I just bought this 88 base model. Its in incredibly good condition inside and out. But the engine has 223K on it and finally lost an apex seal. Im gonna swap engines but im wondering how much weight i should cut under the hood. It has power steering and air conditiong. Im gonna remove the AIR pump but im wondering how the car will feel if the PS pump is removed.

Is it worth it? How a bout the AC? Any one who has taken off this excess weight please let me know how your car is to drive now.

take it all off bro. Remember that if you remove your air pump you need to have no cats or gutted ones. throw everything out.

yeah well the car revs a little faster without the air pump or A./c I will be doing the manual steering midification to my car and that will eliminate everything but the alt and water pump. I wish I had 500 bux for that electric water pump kit. then it would only be the alternator and nothing else holding the engine back.

You can do a lot of stuff to taek weight off the car. The A/c system weighs alot but it is hard to remove the last parts like the condensor and the big box thing under the dash. if you are going to remove the air pump you can also remove the ACV. throw out the EGR valve too. start pre-mixing and you can say good by to the OMP and all that crap. you can also remove all the carpeting and storage bins center console and all that sound deadening crap. Remove yor front bumper too that thing should be a heavy motha.

i heard if you get caught with out your cat , you get a 2000 fine....gutting them would probably the better, cause you'll pass inspection but not smog test =)

aparently you did not see he mentioned his connections. I just got my inspection sticker for 25 dollars without cats or insurance. That is having good friends. No smog test for me.

hey i just had an idea
could you put the metal that makes up the outsidie of the cat/precats and fabricate it to go around a down pipe or mid pipe?
you would pass inspection with the flow of a pipe

just a thought

oh i know all about making the engine rev quicker. my last one (an 86 base model) i put the block of a 90 in it. with the fan still connected and only the waterpump and alternator on a belt it reved easier then my friends with a light weight flywheel and the fan removed. Lightweight rotors help soooooo much. SO im goin the same route with this one. '90 block and i think ill ditch everything else. that should make the engine very happy indeed.
