Should I get this FD for potential engine upgrade?

Just heard from someone that a guy he works with has an FD that's been in a fender bender. Car runs but the guy just wants rid of it as he's leaving the island in 5 months (he's military and so doesn't want the car anymore after he leaves). Is asking for $300 for the whole thing. Is it worth getting and then towing somewhere to rape parts off it (specifically the engine and related bits for a future swap) and then sell other bits to hopefully make a bit of money back? Or should I just pass on it. Car runs and everything so the motor's still good. Only bad thing when thinking about a full swap is that the FD in question is an automatic.

For $300 I would do it! I'm sure there is various parts you may use, or just fix the car! (by fender bender, do you mean that he dented the fender, or totaled it?)

I'm still a newbie, but from why I've read... Be prepared for a swap. Motor mounts, possible omp issue (s4 is mechanical, newer is electronically controlled by ecu?), exhaust/turbo plumbing, and electronics.

Honestly, I'm going to eventually build another s4 t2 engine. But I would still scoop that fd up for 300$. Hell, part it out.

Oh, I wouldn't keep it. I'd get it with a mind to swap in the whole engine/ECU/harness etc in placement of the engine in my S5 Tii, hence why I said the automatic would be the only issue. Already talked to my machine guy and he said the mounting of the engine wouldn't be a problem at all.

Gotcha. With an electronics swap, I doent see an issue there. Usually (not rx7 specific, just generally) an auto ecu will work with a manual transmission, but not the opososite.

And motor mounts are an issue. This site sells some deceit looking mount adapters cheap. http://motivefab.com/products

Good luck!

Cheers for the link. My machine guy also told me that he'd just make me up a new crossmember as that'd probably be easiest!

well swap is pretty simple, you just keep your trans and custom mount the new engine.

however all the wiring/plumbing/etc etc is a HUGE project.

At least with it being an automatic you've already got the counter weight to mount a lightweight flywheel!
