Should I get an FC?
Should I get an FC?
Hello,
I am a seventeen-year-old high school senior and have been lusting over RX-7's for a while.
My goal is to work my *** off and save up around $17,000 and buy a nice sports car to have as a weekend car. Currently I have a 1990 Acura Integra that is a good daily driver and my dad has owned it since he bought it back in 1990.
My question to you resident RX-7 experts is: should I get an FC, FD, RX-8 or something else? I want a car that is RWD, fun to drive and a total panty dropper.

I think FC's take more of an acquired appeal. You grow to like/love them, FD's are just SEXY, and I wouldn't personally get an RX-8.
It's really your choice and it all depends on your intentions.

Work alot? I made $10k at 18 in 7 months.
If you like RX-7s that's enough for a nice TII a rebuild and plenty of other goodies to go with it. If you wan't something a little newer and more reliable though go with a miata.
Forget about an FD.

It depends on what you really want. A miata won't attract too many chicks (its seen as a pansy car), but they are known to be some of the best handling cars availiable and a supercharger will fix the underpower situation. However, even a boosted car won't be extremely fast in a straight line. They are also pretty cheap to buy maintain and run.
An FD, on the other hand, is a bit heavier but alot more powerful and much more expensive to maintain right.

Are you talking about repairs? I have owned my FC for 7 years and it has only required oil, gas, yearly coolant changes, belts, plugs, wires, and a starter. I still have the tires from the month after I bought it. I paid $2600 for the car with 65k miles too. I have most certainly got my money's worth from the car.
Hey I was 17 a few months ago and ran into the perfect NA FC. It had only 82k miles on it. The FC has been very reliabe to me, i also drive about 50 miles a day and i get decent mileage in the city. Great car and very fun to drive. I'm currently saving for a turbo swap.
But damn, if i had that much dough, 17k? Go get a FD man.
What the dude said about the fc is that it IS an acquired liking. To most people, when they think of an rx7 they think of a FD. I love the fc because in Initial D Ryosuke>keiskue...haha that's how I decieded and it was so much cheaper.

If you really intend on saving money for another car, then don't buy any kind of RX-7. You will find yourself spending more and more money on the RX-7 and at that age, you will not be able to save much (it's not a matter of how much you make, it's a matter of discipline).

Simple answer: NO! Spend your money on better things, like school, apartment. Freedom from your 'rents is MUCH more rewarding than a sports car. And keep the integra. Don't fix what ain't broken.
And you have MANY years to live to where you can get the right car. WOMEN, not girls, WOMENare much more impressed by an educated man, then a sports car this is over 12+ years old now, or 16+ years old if want to say the FC.

when i was 16 i made 6k in 6 months so its possible...but honesty do some research before you go and buy a car u dont kno **** about. something will break and you wont know what to do and it'll end up costing you a lot more to have someone else do it for you.
But honesty..grow up. im in highschool too and i had my FC..now i drive a close to 500 hp car that everyone looks at..do i care/try to impress them by doing stupid ****? **** no..everyone in school is immature and theres not really anyone worth "impressing"
so if you have the money and you think you know enough to get one (its not gonna be anything like ur acura likely) go for it, theyre nice cars if you take care of them. good luck

17K? If you spend that much on a first sports car you're dreaming and over-reaching, unless you get a good co-signatory for your loan!
What you should do, IMHO, is find out what you want exactly, and how you want to achieve it. Commuting, 'sporty' fun/commuting car, autocrossing, dragging, highway ****, or a mix?
FC's are a good chassis, don't get me wrong, but you won't break any ground in terms of ponies per dollar with a rotary... period. Add in expensive parts, expensive labor, unavailability of mechanics in some areas and it means you either better get an engine hoist and learn how to do your own rebuilds or rethink going with a RX-7, or consider a swap.
No this isn't swap prosthetylization or a threadjack... I'm just being honest.
And yeah, think about your future... getting an education is going to be better, and if you get someone who is attracted because of your car, you basically have captured a **** toy who likes to be seen in flashy cars. Congrats?
Besides, with real money, you can get much much nicer cars than re-fried rice. No offence, but come on.. 21 years old FCs or something modern?

To the original poster: Id get a clean FC and put some money into it or a maybe an RX-8 since its newer. Id only get the FD if you really want it- I know Id get one if I had the money and a backup daily driver.

I soon after got a job and worked my *** off with the limited pay and hours that I was given at first. And yes, I managed to save up more than enough money for an FC. I payed for the car, I pay insurance, gas, maintenance, all aftermarket stuff by my self. It's very possible to be a kid and work your *** off and save up money if you really want to.

Get an education first, it will ******* destroy you in the end. And don't say my parents are paying for it. There is more satisfaction of paying something for yourself instead of it being handed to you.
