should the aux port actuators activate if the car is sitting still reving @ 4500rpm?
should the aux port actuators activate if the car is sitting still reving @ 4500rpm?
(s5) I just had someone rev my car up to 4500 rpm which is a good 700 rpm higher than 3800 and I did NOT see the actuators raise :/ afterwards i removed the vacuum hose while the car was off, blew into it and with little effort the actuator raised, turning the auxiliary port shaft (i think that is what it is called) and opening the auxiliary port. I believe I need a new air pump, my car is a 1991 coupe. I know the solenoid works.
what if the car was on jacks stands and it was in gear and i got it up to the required rpm? would that still not work because the engine was not pushing the weight of the car, in other words not "under load"?
You might try fooling the car. Do this:
Pull the vacuum line off the boost/pressure sensor and plug it.
Pull the TPS plug off and leave it off.
Get someone to watch the actuators.
Start the engine and put the CLUTCH IN and shifter in ANY GEAR and leave it there.
That might very well fool the car and make the actuators open. Give it a try. No need to jack a car up.
That is similar to the procedure in the eigthy six FSM for getting the secondary injectors to come online in the driveway. They had you remove the plug from the neutral switch but I found just putting the clutch in and in gear works.
Or another way..........pull the plug off the aux actuator solenoid and jumper a gnd and power to it with the engine running. Ports should open with the engine running.......at idle even I believe.
Or pull both hose off the solenoid and jumper them together with the engine running and the actuators should open.

I've heard both from S5 NA owners. Some do claim to get the actuators to move with no load on the engine. At any rate, you could probably also swap the solenoid plug with the blue one for the relief solenoid. Without checking the FSM, this would either open the ports under 3500 RPM or above 3500 RPM. I think it's the 2nd option, and it shouldn't be load dependent. Or at least this works on an S4, as I could force the relief port open on the ACV just by free-revving to 3500+.
k thanks, ill do a "haynes" recommended air pump check as i did with the solenoid and if it works as it is suppose to i might be satisfied or i might try one of the suggestions listed
