short trips with my RX7

I dont like doing it, should I be scared to take short jumps with my 7 to the store and flooding it? I have a fuel switch in it now and I know how they can flood, I was just wondering if anyone had any was they keep their car from flooding.

Thanks

Jesse

Get new injectors because most likely they are leaking. Keep your fuel cutoff switch, it shouldnt be a big deal.

I have an 88 T2. From what the local rotary shop guys tell me, if say you need to move the car from the street to the driveway and you don't have time to let it warm up, you can do a simple procedure to keep it from flooding. I am NOT sure if this is the same on all series....perhaps someone else can chime in.

Basically you move it,.... park and with the engine at idle....slowly rev to about 2-3K RPM... hold it there for a few seconds so the engine speed is stabilized ...and then key off the engine while depressing the "go fast" peddle all the way to the floor. The RPMS drop....engine dies....let your foot off the peddle.
Again, I'm not sure about different series (mine is S4), but you can hear the engine putter out and die. Since I started using this technique the car has not died once on short trips.

Oh, I don't have one, but doesn't the kill switch accomplish the same thing?

I use mine in the summer as a Daily driver.NOt in winter because I like to have the car for more than a Year(SALT,eats the car!).
If I move the car say from the driveway and out to the street,I eiher let it run a minute,or when I shut it Off,Rev it up to 3.5K or so and shut the key off.I have had NO problems starting my car since I got it..well,actually,once.I was parked on a bit of an incline,But I realized what I had done, and put it in neutral and got the car to a flat spot.It started up again.(fuel sock wasn't in the fuel).

Never had any problems restarting after short trips. Even the ones to move the car to the other side of the driveway. I do nothing special before shutting the car off. This is from a 1990 Turbo II.

Yeah, just shut it off with the kill switch (Turn switch off to kill the fuel, turn key to off when engine dies) If it does flood it's easy to deflood wit ha kill switch (I have one). However, I had my injectors cleaned at Witch Hunter Performance and it hasn't flooded since.

I DD my S4 turbo, I work about 5km away from where I live so it's a short 5 minute trip (only 5 minutes because it's 50km/h speed limit and 2 sets of lights to get there). I start the car, let it run until the temp gauge is off stone cold, then grandma it until it hits full temp. I don't get a chance to open it up at all due to the low speed limit anyway. This has served me well and haven't had any issues aside from high fuel usage from all the start/stopping :P

just rev it up to about 3.5k and turn the ignition off this will help flush any extra fuel out of the combustion chamber and prevent it from flooding
