short shifters are they worth it?
i took my shifter out today to check out the really fugged up bushings and i check the net for what i need to replace and I see short shifters going for something like 200 bucks a pop and from what i understand they make the shift points smaller for faster shifts but for that kind of price is it worth the difference? i want to be able to shift as fast as can be but I've never owned a manual so I'm not sure how good a short shifter is in a race situation as i haven't raced competivly from off the line.
Should i just replace the bushings on my stock shifter? or buy one of these mazdatrix short shifters that I'm sure come with bushings?

my friend just installed a short shifter on his 1988 Mistsubishi Starion ESI-R and it makes the car a blast to drive. he had the bushing completely gone and the kit he got came with a new one. i drove the car the other day and i love it because shifting is so much quicker. at first it feels like you arent in gear but you get used to it quick. i think its worth it but its more important for your car to run well so i havent upgraded yet because my bushing is gone too.

by the way...my 7 beats the starion.....

THe conquest kicks ***, I got a buddy decking one out right now with t3/t4 turbo, custom manifold, built engine etc.... very nice and will be pretty quick when finnished. Anyways the short shifter does take time getting use to but it does add some fun factor to your driving.

Read what Mazdatrix says about their own short shifters and those from other manufacturers. Some of them rattle. There are pros and cons. Its really up to you.

less time shifting meens less time off the gass. like said above...some make noise some dont. if you like to drive fast then this will help you do so. you should make sure that your drivetraine is in good working order first ... if you dont it may be hard to take advantage of your mods if the car cant react to them.

Whenever someone is trying to sell you something though, its hard to take their opinion as objective. I would search for other threads on the subject, see what others have used, etc. To be honest, I've never really bothered with shifters, too much money to spend on so many other things.
