I have a mazdatrix shortshifter on my 90 NA and it is great. At mazdatrix they have a big article about the rattle that some people have a problem with and they show that it is car specific, and not shifter specific. In other words if you put a new shifter in your car and it rattles it will rattle no matter what shifter you put in it...the rattle is comming fromo the car not the shifter, and so if you have a rattling shifter and you cant stand it and you return it, and get a new one and put it in, it will still rattle becaus eit is from the car and not the shifter. SO the rattling issue is all about the car an dnot the shifter. My mazdatrix shifter in my car is tight and has zero rattle, even if I'm holding it at 7500 RPM in 2nd gear. I love it, it feels very solid and the throw is reduced from 6 inches to 3 inches, I topped mine with a MOMO carbon and aluminum **** and it is VERY nice. Get one. Mazdaspeed is 280 but mazdatrix is only 180 and it comes with teh new bushings and the new pivot cuff.

if you can stand the way the shifter is right now, I'd say keep it. at least for now. That's $200 that could best be spent somewhere else.

Why are there so many worn bushings in Rio Grande?

I'm kidding.

Oh ya... it'll still be there.... ohh..... ya.....

Vibration means you need new bushings.

A shorter **** just means a shorter throw... but still the same amount of arc, so it doesn't feel the same as a true short shifter at all.

nah u see the only reason u dont have vibration on a normal shifter is becouse a shifter has 2 peices to it and they are sperated by some rubbery stuff well if u just drop it like that u stil have the rubber stuff in between and a shorter shifter

I did this on my 88 GXL so I know for a fact it works on series 4s. Just unscrew your ****. Then get some vice grips and clamp down on the top part of the shifter. Then yank and turn and twist till it comes off. The shifter is actually 2 pieces glued together. Then get an aftermarket shifter that uses an allen wrench to tighten up and your done. It doesn't give you sooo much less of a throw, but it does feel lots better.
