I put my new short shifter from mazdatrix today, easy to install and very nice to use, great shifter. Almost 200 dollars but in my opinion worth every penny, came with all bushings and gaskets

I made my short throw-short shifter per the how to in the archives. worked great, plus i chopped it down so your pal rests almost inside of the surround. Very nice, and damn short shifting

Or, do what I did...
The rubber bushing in the shifter failed while I was driving, and I ended up having to shift the stub. Just remember.. use something to protect your palm or you will have a nice round bruise from the 2-1, 2-3, 4-3, 4-5 shifts.

Does anyone know if the stock shifter is solid metal or if it has a rubber core for vibration dampening??

yes the stock shifter has this rubber

I have a C's and it has the rubber dampening and there are no vibrations.

I think where people get a rattling sound is from the insert that goes where the old bushing sat. but that is just my opinion.

I have a C's as well, it's pretty much flawless except for the distinct lack of thread n ***** out there for it. If you do get a C's make sure you order the right year, thier is an S4 and an S5 version, different part #'s..

Higgi or mazdatrix , I use a mazdatrix but I hear higgi's are just as good. He's been on the boards a long time and is trustworthy.

Sorry, the shifter bushings are not "black rubber".
They are either transluscent white or dark blue.
They are very hard plastic - nylon?

Well maybe i said the wrong thing, not bushings but sound damper maybe? it's black looking and it looks like a cylinder going around the shiftknob on the bottom before hitting the tranny. But oh well i'll just buy this shifter and clean it all up.

hes talking about the black rubber stuff thats between the shifter and the stick. You wouldn't generally see it unless you tried to completely dissasemble the shifter. I can't remember if its an s5 only thing though?
