Short Shifter Question

Hey guys, I just finished installing my short shifter, and it's the first time I've ever used a short shifter and I just have to say, it takes a lot more effort to move this shifter than the stock one and I was just wondering is this normal, I mean is it supposed to require a lot of force to move it, or should it be similar to the stock shifter. Also if this is how it is supposed to be, is there any way to make it shift without any extra difficulty? For some reason I seem to think that this maybe damaging the tranny, is there any truth to my belief or am I just paranoid?

ur probably paranoid...did you do the miata short throw mod? or an actual short throw for a FC?? most likely you just need to break in the new bushings...if you did the miata short throw you might just need to grind down the bottom ball a lil bit

I bought it used from someone on this site, I think it's a shifter for the FC, not the miata one. I didn't put new bushings in it, I just got it yesterday and wanted to put it in, so I put it in right as soon as I got home from work. But, you're prolly right that I'm just paranoid. Thanks man.

A heavy shift **** works well with a short throw shifter.
I went back to the stock ****.

After you get used to a short shifter, everything else feels limp.

at first my miata short throw is very stiff. i actually could not tighten down the bolts all the way otherwise i couldn't move the thing with one hand!
eventually though, either i got used to it or it loosened up a bit, or both, and it is perfect now.
ditto on the heavy shift ****.
i got a 5-speed RX-8 **** and it is very heavy, makes shifting very nice.

Just consider the physics of the thing and you'll realize that a short shifter will require more effort than the longer one. I bought a solid metal T handle for mine. That helped a lot, but the shorter throw far outweighs the increased effort, and you will quickly get used to it.
