Short Shifter and 5th gear sensor

A while back I installed a short shifter (mazdatrix I think).

Everything went well but now in 5th gear my shift up light comes on sometimes.

I'm pretty sure it's not a wire connection. This is b/c during driving if I push up or down with it in gear the light will go off (close the circuit).

I'm going to take my tranny out this week (clutch replacement - great way to spend spring break ). When I do I'll look at it more closely.

I was just wandering if it was a common problem with a short shifter or if my switch might just be going bad.

I though it might be due to the different fulcrum point and the shifter's end not being long enough to depress switch.

I want my mpg back

Yup...I am having the same issue with my mazdatrix shifter. Never had an issue with the stock shifter, now when I try to shift normally into fifth, it grinds like the synchros are bad. I know they arent because if I try shifting slower and ease the shifter into gear, sometimes it will go in no problem with no grinding. I cannot figure out why it does this, but it obviously has something to do with shifter fork alignment on the 5th and reverse side of the shifter box.

Two data points don't form a trend.

How many people have the Mazdatrix shifter (and for how many miles)? How many have experienced 5th gear issues?

(I'd really like to know, because I have one waiting to go on my TII).

I have zero problems with my mazdaracing short shifter. My 5th gear switch works just fine. I'd say swap out the switch(if possible) and see if the problem goes away. If it does then it was likely a shitty switch. If it stays the same or comes back then you know the shifter is the cause.

I don't have a problem shifting into 5th.

Doesn't sound like the shifter has a problem activating the switch, which is what I was wondering about.

I'll prolly test the switch when I pull the tranny and see what I find.

My light does the same thing, and I have the stock shifter, so it sounds like it might be a switch issue.

could the 5th gear switch prevent the shifter from going into 5th?
