Shopping List for Clutch/Tranny Remove and Install

Hey guys,

87 TII

I'll be doing a new clutch installation (first timer) and wanted to make sure I had all the necessary parts need and recommended. I'll be calling mazda in a bit to order a few parts but if i'm missing something, please let me know. Here is what i have or will be ordering:

Clutch Kit (disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, throwout, alignment tool)
Front/Rear tranny oil seals
Redline Oils and lubes for Tranny and Diff
Cleaning/Silver Paint supplies for Tranny housing (wanna make it look nice)

I'm thinking that i should get a new set of tranny mounts but wanted to confirm that with you guys... car has 124k miles on it... i'm not even sure if the first owner ever had the engine rebuilt yet... says he didn't but it still runs very well. Haven't compression tested it yet but no probs.

Don't know about getting a new light flywheel yet, saw some ACT ones but where can one get the counterweight for those?

Sorry for the noobiness but thanks in advance.

You could get a new clutch fork and pivot ball. Up to you.

I'd recomend getting a pivot ball and clutch fork. it will save you some hassle. I replaced just the pivot ball like 2 months ago and have the engine out right now for a busted clutch fork. the fork is like 25bucks from the deal and the pivot is 10 bucks from mazdatrix.

I have the pivot ball/clutch fork sitting around for when I do my tranny job. Might as well replace them when the tranny's out. They're pretty cheap.

I'd recommend ordering a new crossmember and transmission mounts. Usually, the rubber center mount in the crossmember is bad, and you cannot buy the rubber mount separately. Also, since you're going to be dropping the exhaust, you might want to order exhaust gaskets as well as replacement nuts, bolts, studs, hangers, heat shields, etc. This would also be a good time to check the condition of your driveshaft.

Don't forget the pilot bearing seal, and line up a tool for removing the old bearing.
How are the shifter bushings? As you'll need to remove the shifter, good time to check bushings, and also the inner rubber insulator for breaks. If everything original, better take some Prozac before removing the turbo heat shields, then the downpipe.
