It has to be running rich to shoot flames. Excess fuel is burnt off in the exhaust cos there is too much in the chamber. It might look cool but its not good for the motor.

What's the thrill about it? My first gen with a Racing Beat streetport exhaust does it, but I'm running rich(unintentionally). I just happened to notice it when a friend pointed it out while removing the rat's nest. I was actually pulled over by a co-worker who didn't realize it was me. Thought I was runnin' NAWZZZZZ, lol.

I think you might be better off with an afterburner system like an aircraft has. You take fuel and stick it directly into the exhaust. Now, you won't get any power, risk exploding everything, and well, I think it's pointless... If you really want flames!

It doesn't do anything to the motor, its an after burn taking place in the exhaust. Its bad on turbos, if you have one, more than it would be to the engine. Excess fuel in the combustion chamber actually creates something of a cooling effect which is why a lot of OEM factory tunes are a little on the rich side, to my understanding.

Awesome pic Ted

At a local college some kid tricked out a Honda, it caught fire in the parking lot. Apparently he put an aftermarket exhaust on and the exhaust tip was resting on his bumper.

haha, interesting...my buddy has a honda (cr-v) that he decided to put a different exhaust on, and the muffler originally was right up against the bumper...until the heat eventually melted a nice little area around the tip i lmao'd last night when i saw it because it almost looked like it was supposed to be that way

^Yeah seems like the more I redline it the bigger the flames get. The sound gets deeper too, I can feel it from underneath the car.

They do make a "flame shooting" kit that you can put on your car if you want to get that effect the safe way. But I have also seen a vid where his car was real rich and was shootin flames. But like the pic Ted posted.. I think I would like my 7 to look cancer free!! LOL
