When I shift my car (mainly from 1st to 2nd) I can hear it going into gear from the outside of my car. How bad is this? The car shifts fine but I hear it shift and you can hear it from the outside. this usually happens only from 1st to 2nd..after 2nd at a certain speed i don't hear it anymore..whats causing this?

also...How do i know I need to change transmission fluid?

 

You can look at the fluid to see if it needs to be changed, but I'd recomend changing it every two years or so.

Being able to hear the car shift is pretty normal.
