Is the shifter supposed to feel like this?

I was busy trying to unflood the car last night, and this being my first time in a rx7, the shifter felt very funny. Its been a good 3 years since I've used the stock shifter in any car, but this one just felt loose. I couldnt get the car started most likely because its out of gas Thanks for the input.

Oh, and you people that think I am ******* on the rx7, I'm not, but some people on here are just over exaggerating their ability. Thanks for any input on the shifter.

SHift bushing are bad. The shifter should fell tight and have very little play or wiggle. You will need to order both of these.

how many miles are on the car? it's most likely that the bushings have worn out on the shifter. they are easily replaced and make the shift feel like new. replacement bushings can be picked up from most parts suppliers. and Mazdatrix has a good write up about installing the replacements.

Dude, banzai, why have you been doggin on everyone? You seem to have this superiority complex or smoething? The asked a legit question, and he got 2 legit answers. Just because he is new around here, does not mean you can dog on him!! Ever tried using the "Search" option? Kinda hard to find stuff when you have to shuffle through 6 pages of posts!! Have a good day!!

Not ******* on everyone, Just got tired of Abecx's mustang thread. If he spent more time reading and less time running off at the mouth (IMHO) he would learn more.

While you are in there replace the old gear lube. The shift housing has a completely seperate oil supply from the rest of the transmission..

It is safe to drive, just a PITA!, make sure you clean the sludge out of the shifter housing!. Don't worry you will not contaminate the gearbox lube doing this. and while you are at it, change the gear box lube. Buy 2 qts Redline MTL or Neolube

Me running off at the mouth? You guys claiming your n/a cars can beat a stock mustang 5.0 is ludicrous, thats like a civic going to a ls1 site and claiming he kills them as well.

No matter where you go, people talk ****. I dont doubt that there are some NAs out there beating mustangs, but I know that there are a whole lot more that arent!

I remember one time someone asked if they could beat a mid 90s maxima in their 87 NA and I told them no, everyone said i was stupid and that an NA rx7 would walk a mid 90s maxima! HA! and we were talking stock for stock. at any rate, my GF at the time had a 95 maxima and I had an 88 GXL....needless to say, the maxima not only beat the rx7, it SPANKED it. I love these cars, but in NA form, they arent very fast unless heavily modified. now my turbo II on the other hand...

Sure, a N/A will smoke a mustang (90% of the time) on a Autocross course. That is what the REX is designed for, In my opinion. If I'm going to go drag racing I wouldn't do it with a REX or a 5.0.

The guy that claimed he could beat mustangs was referring to street racing which in itself is retarded.

yeah, but when people say "my car beat a ....." nine times out of ten, they are talking redlight racing or interstate. autocrossing is a lot more driver based than just all out acceleration. it could go either way when referring to actual organized racing.

Also look into getting new inner shift boots. Those tend to get all gross and need to be replaced.

Why does everyone think N/As are so slow and GT's are so fast? I have never had one beat me on the street.....

Because, a stock n/a runs a high 15 at the max, your not going to get much more out of it, maybe a mid to low 15. A stock GT runs 13.5x+ stock, 5.0's ran low 14's, even the AODE Convertable's ran a mid 15 ( LOL@ that! ) Would you like to run 'em to find out Rico

Where do you get your numbers from? I see them all the time running 15.5's in the 1/4 @ ennis. I dont ever see 98 and below running at the track, just 99+

and pushes like a boat around corners would spank a n/a 7, lol that was some funny sheeit.
I could care less about running a car around the corners, some of you people use that as your only crutch yet I know more then 80% of the people in this form have never been to a road racing track.
