Shifter Question

Anyone know if there is a difference in shifter length between the S4 and the S5? I bought an aftermarket shift boot for an S5 but it doesn't seem to fit my S4. It fits in the base fine (I just had to make my own holes) and it's fine in Neutral, but as soon as I try to shift the Jam nut under the shift **** comes up out of the top of the boot. It apears the boot is too short. I just want to know if I got ripped off or if there is a difference between the S4 and S5. Thanks all.

I pulled a shifter out of a 90 or 91 turbo and it is the same size as the shifter in my project 86.

Close but no cigar. There is a difference between shifter lengths, not in the actual throw though.

LOL, now that we have covered all the possible answers... Let's pick one. I'll put a pick of the shifter with the boot on it in my garage so you guys can see what I mean.

The S5 shifter IS shorter in physical length then the S4 shifter, so the S5 boot might not fit. I did take a s4 boot and put it in my s5. There was extra material.
