shifter/clutch problem!
WTF...So i got the engine fired up and fixed the idle issue. BUT now i cant move the car because i cant shift the shifter...GRRRRR..
When the engine is not running and i play with the shifter its seems smooth and would go to any gears with no problem. BUT when the engine is running i cant shift the shifter to any gears w/out using alot of force..... ANy idea on this??.. i went to a mech and he had told me that the clutch disc was probably installed incorrectly. He said one face should specifically face the tranny..
SOmeone installed the clutch for me.. and i hope he didnt mess up because he builds rotaries and race them and i have been advertising for him.
ANy suggestion. Could my tranny fluid be just low????... pls help me.

it could be ur pilot bearing too, mine did the same thing and i thought it was just the pedal, till the fork broke and i pulled it all apart. the pilot bearing was totally gone.

Bleed the clutch and check for leaks first. Put all fresh fluid in and make sure you have a good smooth full range of clutch motion. Start with the simple easy fixes before you tear the clutch out. If you end up replacing a a master/slave cylinder get a new one, don't cheap out with the rebuild kits they suck.
P.S. If you don't know the level of your tranny fluid..... Check it for christ sakes.

I had the exact same problem you're describing and got stuck in rush hour traffic! I went to O'Reilley's, got rebuild kits for both Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders and installed them. The problem was completely solved by this. Installing the rebuild kits is easy too. It's not much more than a couple of o-rings. Maybe that's what you should check.

How does the pedal feel? IF it feels too light or if it feels like it isn't coming back up when you take your foot off then look at your slave cylinder. As far as the rebuild kits, I have had probs with them and I think you would just be better off replacing the cylinder. Bleed the system first and check fluid level--if the slave cyl is bad it should be leaking.Always check the little things first and save yourself the headache of tearing the tranny out of the car just to find a minor prob....

Thanks for all the replys!..here is what i have noticed so far. The clutch pedal feels hard (ACT xtreme pressure plate and ACT SS disc) I had someone press the clutch while i look at the release fork movement. I can see it move about 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch. When the engine is running and try to shift it would go but the clutch needs to be depressed almost all the way to the floor. Do i need to adjust something here??..perhaps bleed it more. Would removing all the clutch fluid and replacing it with fresh fluid and do a good bleed help. The fluild in there now sat for almost 3 years. I did have to add more before i fired up the engine.

i think you just need to adjust the pedal a bit... when i installed my ACT clutch my gears were semi grinding when i tried to shift, now it works fine after adjustment

About a month or two ago I put in a fresh reman. with a street/strip clutch and pp, new pilot and TO bearing too. I had the same problem as you early this week. Tranny and clutch fluid levels were good, and the slave cyl. was fine too. I talked to a mechanic (I work at a Mazda service shop) and he's about 90% sure it's my pilot bearing and/or the input shaft going out.

I was told that when you replace the clutch that the disc goes in the right way. THis means one face specifically faces the bell housing.. Is this true.
