Shifter change out to Lexus SC300
Anyone know anything about this? What year of Lexus SC 300 shifter would I look for? I read this message and it was dated Oct. 96. Tried to e-mail the person who wrote it, no luck. Tried to include it in this but failed. The guy says it 'drops' right in and everything matches and lowers the height of the shifter by an inch and takes out that crazy rattling/vibration noise at high revs.

That would be really nice! I'd like to take one out of my neighbours Lexus... He's a dick,
I wonder if that would work for 89+, because we have a -slightly different shaped "Ball"- it has a slot in it.
Those rattling noises mean your bushings are gone. Take 10 bucks, order the upper and lower kit, and take 10 min to put it in. It really tightens up the feel, and kills the rattle!

To any 2nd gen owners that might be interested...I know some people have
had trouble adapting aftermarket shift ***** to the "7"...I also know most
people (like me) hate the original **** and/or think it is one of the few
parts on the car that looks really dated...other than the black outside
moulding on '86-'88 models.
I found a solution that was both simple and reduces that damned
rattling noise you sometimes get from the stock shifter at high revs. Try
replacing your **** with the manual shift **** from a Lexus SC300. It's
leather, contoured nicely and ... the best part... lowers shifter height
and perceived throw. Imagine your gearbox feeling less truck-like and more
Miata-like!
Note: This is an '86-'88 recommendation only! Thread size changes
for 1989 models and won't work!
Another plus--with the Lexus ****, you can lose the locking
collar--just install the replacement snugly--it will go pretty far down the
shaft of the shifter.
It looks *much* better and feels *much* better than the stock **** too!

You know what shift **** swaps on good, gives you a little collar to attach the shift boot too and is really nice?
Subaru Impreza...
Black leather with red stitching and screws on perfectly. So find a friend with a subaru and tell him to get a shift ****!

The Subaru **** is also weighted . I had it on both a stock shifter and my C's short throw shifter, which is actually stock height, just shorter throw. I am going back to the stock shifter though, so im selling mine. But i like the **** cuz it isnt gaudy (sp?) or anything. But mine sits up pretty high, not as high as stock, but up there. I think it was from a 98?

Ah- thanks. I knew there was something about the slot that was different....
SO this is all about just a ****, not the lever?? That's dissapointing... I was really excited...
I just cut shaft a bit, got a nice aftermarket leather ****, and drilled a couple recessed set screws into the collar (I had cut all the threads off the shaft)
It's really shot, and I loke the feel... But it won't beat a short shifter..
