my car did that in the winter. i found out it was just shitty terminals and a weak *** battery. try jumpstarting if you can. see if that works. check if your solenoid is getting power. check ur connection. use someone else's battery. replace the solenoid if neccesary. my solenoid caught on fire !!! almost burned my car to the ground. but tthats another story

When it clicks does your car loose power? Like if the battery were really really dead? My car did that and I realized my ground cable was loose. So I grounded it to the chassis and problem solved.

it's the ground wire to the battery not getting a good connection this has been the case on 2 of my rx7's all you have to do is keep turning it back and forth until it gets a circuit and bing it will start and it would help if you change the battery cable too

I had that click, click, click no start situation thirty minutes ago at Home Depot. No hammer on board so I got the jack out, fully colllapsed it, lay on the left side of the car and whaped the starter three to four time. Car starts. The starter or solenoid is bad. Big deal. Only happens about once a month and I'm too cheap and lazy to fix it. Do check to see if your wire is on the starter good and with a meter make sure it gets 12v when the key is turned to start. Make sure the large positive lead is not loose on the starter. If thats all well, either get another starter, rebuild the starter. or carry a hammer with you at all times and get aquainted with the location of the starter as you lay along the side of the car. Its not easy to see laying on the ground. Just whap it until you determine how to fix it in the long run.

Im gonna go *wack* it and see what she does, I know the battery terminals are fine, I get juice everywhere, 12v at a stand still.its just that the solenoid is clicking and not getting the starter motor to work I guess. Now I cant remember if my starter in on the left side, or right? Hailers? And I dont have a jack on hand, and my car is lowered 2inches..kinda makes getting under there a pain.

Well it's not the alt. and its not the terminals, (I know this because the battery has 12V at key off, thus ruling out the alt. I know its not the terminals because I have complete power everywhere, if it was a bad terminal, which I have had before I would have no juice) its the startermotor itself. The solenoid is clicking, not turning the Smotor, I just figured it out,(Thanks Hailer you jogged my memory) and gave it some wacks with a 4D cell maglite, started up...Damn it, this is the 4th freaking starter, seriously this is crap! Does anyone else have problems with their car just using up starters left and right?????

Wow, my "POS" FD has never been through even one starter. Weird, huh? My car has never left me stranded, never made me work all night on it, I never had to leave it sitting still for 5 months, I drive it everyday, I've never had it broken into, never been embarassed at a race, never had to make a post about my car not working right, never etc..... Good job beating your car over the head with a blunt object, that's how all real mechanics fix ****. You do that and then you give me **** about not torqueing every little ******* bolt down to factory specs. Congrats on getting it running though. Later.

Nope, but my starter is dying too (stock 1991 NA). What replacements starter are you using? Are they Mazda factory ones? or are they Pep Boys, Auto Track, Western Auto, etc starters?

Depending on the answer you may have the culprit right there!

Hey Scotty you need to take a chill pill and realize I was playn', if your FD was a piece you wouldn't own it would ya? Yea you're right you haven't had the problems I've had in over the 2 years I've owned my FC, you've had your car how long? Months. And you KNOW that hitting the starter loosens the drive gear when they stick because of heat(aka ROTARY). So don't dog me for that, never been embarassed at a race??? Can you say Tims Camaro...that was pretty embarassing if you ask me. But Im not being an ***, just replying to your not so nice post, buddy. Thanks, it starts now.
