Shift point question
I read somewhere (please don't ask where) that its not a good idea to shift higher than 6500 RPM from 1st to 2nd due to the large change in ratios. Is this true or am I just misinformed?

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
shift ratios have nothing to do with it, although most Turbo and S4 non turbos do not make any power any above 6500 so there is not much point going any higher.

sure its ok, but you would end up with faster times by shifting before 7 because of the ratios... spending that extra horsepower on a **** high ratio is a waste of time, compared to spending decent horsepower on a ratio that will actually get you somewhere.

basically the explanation would be the large change in ratios from 1st to 2nd is not happy on an old transmission when you slam it in at 8k rpm. you can definately shift above 6500. just don't slam it. and get some happy transmission fluid in there, like redline mt90.

But the point is you'll still be going faster had you shifted below 7...
...
but sure if you want to tempt damage to your engine and driveline, while accellerating slower... by all means,
EDIT: and seeing how spark from the ECU is whack crap after 6.5k anyhow, I'd like to see your dyno maps. I've been through this with Icemark and Aaron before, you guys better show proof of your **** before setting yourself up with either of them. Both of them are know-all-tech-gods who can smell bullshit from a mile away. And niether of them like bullshit or have a problem pointing it out to everyone else on the forum whilst making a fool you.
Keep that all in mind

I said that max hp isn't reached till 7k because thats what the factory said. I'm just going by that. http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/rx7specs.html I dunno if age changes the RPM at which max hp is reached but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. I'm already running MT90 bingoboy so I guess I'll shift a little higher now.
