I wonder if you can wire it into that annoying shift buzzer some how.

My guess is there is more then one wire?

It sounds like you may also want to get a factory wiring diagram. That will help considerably.
You can get a factory service manual at www.rx7city.com.

If you have questions, take pics and post em up.

Thanks for the help, i figured it out! so running from the leading coil is a negative female terminal which gives out a RPM signal. All that has to be done is to tap into the terminal and done

You just reminded me that I have to install mine, I ended up getting one from Harlan, real tiny self contained units. Its like 1"x3"

your autometer take pills or can you just set the rpm?

any others reading this and wondering why you need a shift light- the factory tachs in both my FCs are WAY off at higher RPM, the vert by almost 1000 RPM. 7200RPM indicated is really 6200.

so instead of mounting a tach on the dash or in the dash I put shift lights into both cars.

You need to be on the summed output of the trailing coil as the front coil timing changes depending on load and the throttle position and the leading coils fires wasted spark. Using the leading coils will result in an incorrect engine speed signal.

Use the Yellow/blue wire in the single pin diagnostic connector at the trailing coil... NOT THE LEADING COIL.

You can also pick that same wire up at the back of the gauge panel, the power steering computer, and the cruise control computer.

Pretty easy to re-calibrate the stock gauge. There is a adjustment pot right on the back of the gauge's sub panel.
