Don't get rid of the buzzer. It's used for low oil and low coolant also (important things to notice...). You can set the buzzer to go off higher on the back of the cluster. If you set it high enough... well you get the point.

There is a reason that thing is there. My shift buzzer doesn't hit till I red line, so that helps me out alot. I don't see a point to be flooring my car from 7 to 8k.

The buzzer is there for a reason, and if it's going off..."O SHI!"

Its not a shift buzzer dipshit. Its a redline buzzer. Unless your engine was built for it, redlining for massive amounts of time isn't a great thing for your engine. The buzzer is there to make sure you know you are redlining so you are smart enough to know moderation.

Disabling the buzzer is a retarded move. Having said that, go for it. Its behind the instrument panel. Just desolder it. Let me know how it goes.

Actually, "shift" and "redline" are two different things.

A shift light/buzzer tells you when it's time to shift, because you're making less power when you go to higher RPM (above peak power), and the power band in the next gear is at the right place.

Redline is "Don't rev the engine any faster."

On an RX-7, especially with intake/exhaust/porting, the two are pretty much the same - peak power is often right around redline.

On other cars, this is completely false. My Subaru (old, slow, indestructible) loses power quite quickly above 5k RPM from the intake and exhaust choking out. I shift at 5200 RPM when I need to get somewhere in a hurry. However, the engine redlines around 7500 RPM. It's not making ANY power that high, but it can do it.

What was said earlier is true, though - that buzzer is also used for low oil and low coolant warnings. Those are things you usually want to know about, and a buzzer will get your attention a lot faster than a warning light in the center cluster. Since both of those conditions are something that can and will rapidly destroy a rotary (or, at least, require a rebuild), it's worth leaving the buzzer in place.

I'm not sure about tweaking the activation RPM for the buzzer, but if you can do it, that might be a good option. Set it to go off from RPM somewhere slightly above fuel cut, and then it won't bother you in normal driving, but will still be present for the emergency warnings.

Or just remove it completely, and then don't come whining to us when a coolant line blows on the highway, and your engine is fried because you didn't notice the light. Not my problem.

God... what a dipshit.

You don't have to figure it out yourself.. Even though I was an "*******". I still told you what you wanted to know.. Unsolder the buzzer on the back of the instrument panel.

By the time the oil or coolant levels are low enough to indicate on the dash, the chances of engine damage are quite high. The coolant warning is very sensitive, and will let you know if the cooling system is only a cup or two low. The oil warning will also let you know you're low long before the pickup starts sucking air (at which point you're basically out of oil, and your bearings are a few seconds from being destroyed).

Your car, your decision, though.

BWAAAAAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA this guy is too cool. He's out racing people and he's so focused that the redline/shift Buzzer might make him lose the race. I think his plan is to get peak power and then PASS the power curve and slow down just enough for the guy in the honda to THINK he's gonna win but it's just the 7 driver shifting where there is NO POWER!!!

GENIOUS!!!!!

let me know when you over-rev and you destroy your clutch and the flywheel amputates your legs and cuts open your liver along with shards of clutch hitting you in the face. Be careful cuz Razorback might wanna throw acid in your face afterwards. I may have reason to believe the acid is painful, although it's nowhere near as painful as the stupid **** you made me read.

I await the ricers to come and back you up soon.

tell me about it. He claims he doesn't want to push his car past the limits because his car is messed up to begin with but he still insists on removing the buzzer!!!!! seriously, I've seen some confused people in the past but damn, talk about a walking contradiction.

I must confess... when I clicked on this thread, I only did so to see the flames. And, they were good.

That said, I can't imagine not wanting that buzzer, even disregarding its low oil and coolant warning functions. When I used to autocross, I was much more concerned with looking at the cones than my tach, and being able to depend on the buzzer enabled me to spend that much more time watching the track, and setting up for it. Like everyone else here, I consider myself a good driver, but I'll still take all the help I can get.

the shift up light had two settings in my GXL: gas saver told you when to shift to save gas and if you passed it it would tell you at redline.
