She runs!!!
Well after 13 long years she runs! I got the fuel pump wired in on Thursday, tried starting it today wouldn't fire up. Jumpered the test plug for the maf(?) And it started! So I have to sort that out. Couple of other things: the alternator runs really hot and worries me, I'll replace that. The air pump was screeching like raped cat, pulled it off, ill replace that. There's a bad exhaust leak, maybe tighten it down or get thicker gaskets. I have to track down the water temp sensor connector, figure that out. Not sure but the engine runs kinda rough, maybe an injector isn't firing or I don't have the injectors plugged in correctly from the harness. I don't know but I'm pumped it's been a long time.
Little background on the car. It's a 90 rx7 turbo 2. I got it in 2007 for $250. Bad compression on one rotor. A friend came over who had a turbo 2 at the time and suggested we should check the turbo for play. Started pulling it apart, checked the turbo, no play. Then suggested we should pull the rest of the motor, we're already half way there. I said sure! We got a little further and realized nothing was marked or bagged and bolts and lines were all over the place🤣. Tried to bag everything we could, still didn't mark anything or take pictures🙄. Anyway we got the motor out.
Brought the motor to a shop to be built by a reputable builder in the area, looking for a mild street port. While he has the motor someone steals all the pieces. Eventually he gives me what is supposedly his motor out of a S5 T2 same as mine. So I have no idea what's really in the build by now, or if it would ever run. Bring it home and let it sit in the shed while i work out the paperwork for registration (another 1.5 year long struggle).
Unfortunately, because of life, the car ends up sitting around until the end of the world starts and I figured better now than never. My father and I get the motor in and piece by piece we put it all together. This thing is a real puzzle! But mostly because nothing was documented, a huge life lesson.
Still some things left to do before I can get tires and register it but it's the farthest it's been since I've owned it.
