shaved door handles

i bought my car with a broken door handle on the pass side and a broken lock cylinder on the driver side. the cheapest solution for me was to get the door popper kit installed (the ones used when door handles are shaved) after 2 weeks of waiting i found out the solenoids were to big for my door and smaller kit had to be ordered. after another month of waiting my new "smaller" kit came but are still too big. they wrote an email to the company to find out if smaller ones are made and will let me know tomorrow. i have seen fcs with shaved doors so i know kits do exist. can someone please help me help them. thanks!!

im not sure of any exact names, but i know theres quite a few no name companys that have them, your best bet yould probably to take off the door panel and drive around to differnt stereo shops that might carry them and see if it fits, but if i were you i would just go to the scrap yard pickup the door handle and leave the broken key cylnder inside and get power door lock actuators and hook them up to an aftermarket alarm, the actuators are cheap (roughly 10-15$ cad).
i did this and i havent use the key to unlock the door in over 3 years.
as well you dont have to worry about painting and filling the empty hole.

Well, keep in mind that some race tracks do not let cars race if they do not have door handles. (safety issue)

yeah, its also illegal where i live in pa for the same reason. i do like the look of a car when the moldings and handles are shaved i never was planning on taking mine off. i just want to be able to get in my car, but keep others out.

that is true

i have the shaved door handle kit.

i had it installed at the same time as the alarm.. i have 20 lb actuators and springs, so they pop open nicely.

i have yet to actually shave off the handles though.. im going to do it before paint, im not driving around with primer all over the door

how were the solenoids too big?

the actuator pulls open the door latch via small cable, and you 'spring load' the door, so it pops open.

i have pics if you want of my setup..

These things are illegal in most part of the country in state/county roads/streets.&nbsp The reason is that if emergency personnel has to get you out of the vehicle in a hurry, you endanger both yours and their lives by increasing the time need to get your *** out.&nbsp Please, keep these things on show vehicles - they do NOT belong on street vehicles.

RETed, what you said is a valid point, and it's also (to an extent) illegal here in Australia. But I do know that if you're in an accident and the ambo's want to get you out of the car quickly, they'll just smash the window and drag you out.

i understand what you mean Ted. this has crossed my mind on many occasions..

however, i dont think it makes any difference from the door being locked..

most cars now adays when in-gear automatically lock the doors..

flip your car, the doors will still be locked.. right?

i do realize at a racetrack most guys wont be racing with locked doors or anything, but.. how often am i going to the racetrack? i wouldnt consider this mod on a track car or anything.. but my GXL is a summer daily driver.

.. and my handle locks were on the outs, so i chipped in the extra few bucks for the popper kit and just installed it along with the alarm.

yeah, i dont really see them as the big of a safty hazard for that reason, because like what was stated above many cars self lock when driving. black13b, i was having the kit installed by the place installing my alarm (it was all going to be done together until the solenoids were to big the first time) so i dont know what they ment by the solenoids were to big. they just said they wouldn't fit inside the door panels. since ive never had a car with them are really looked at them all i can do is just go along with what im told. but yes def i would like to see how your setup is done.
