Series turbo swap SUCCESS! project resto
so about a year ago i picked up an 86 gxl that had been sitting behind a garage for over 5 years. The motor was dead, it had been broken into numerous times, and had a layer of dust a debris about an inch thick as you can see by the pic.
but for 500$ what the hell i decided to risk it and purchase the car and hopefully turn it into a rocket.
the motor it came with was pretty clean
but it wouldnt even turn, and i wanted some boost and more power. So i went to my fav site EBAYYYYY and picked up a s5 turbo motor for 1200$ with trans ecu everything. Yeah i know "ebay motors are sketchy as hell", but i felt risky and decided to go with my gut feeling. And yes this was THE DREADED S5 to S4 turbo swap. Anyways to make a long story short, i had no idea what i had got myself into, hence i had no idea there was any differences between series, because i was a n00b, untill i discovered this site almost a year ago. Well i followed all the directions on the site even though they were vague alot of the times. did the front cover swap, tb, wp, fp, all the good stuff, got all the right sensors etc etc. did all the wiring, and bam she LIVES!! and the motor runs like a beaut!! for all the people who said JDM motors are crap, HAHA!!! anyways enjoy this vid i just made, it bogs sometimes cause the filter is off if anyone was wondering.and yes im using the n/a harness
By the way these upcoming two weeks im getting some cash, and im gonna buy and exhaust, and a haltech e8 and am getting it tuned all at about the same time. Ill note my progress on this thread and throw some pics at ya too. BTW i am getting rid of the hideous red interior so dont make fun. enjoy

yeah im getting custom black carpet and a new headliner installed and all the red interior pieces painted black. my sisters bf is sponsered by a cutom shop so im getting the carpet done and the headliner and **** for like 500$. as for the old pressure, i dont think its reading right, when i first fired her up a while ago the pressure went to 40 now its at 0.

I'll bet the odd oil pressure is just from a funky gauge.
JDM motors almost always start up. That's about the only thing the warranty covers and it's nothing special. I wouldn't declare victory yet. Do a compression test in about 2 months. If it still runs and has good compression, then lucky you and congrats. But nice job, regardless.
