series 5 automatic seatbelt repair/recall

Im in need of any documentation available on the web pertaining to this. Im well aware this is covered under the lifetime safety recall, however this vehicle has had the repair made once already in 1997 and they have failed again. The Mazda service manager showed me the printout, which states the recall campaign on that vehicle as being closed. He said they normally do not perform any recall twice, but he understands that it is a safetly measure therefore he is going to check with some higher ups before telling me no.

I used to have a site bookmarked, but Im on an old computer until my new one gets repaired so I dont have that. ANy help is appreciated. Im looking especially for links etc. that state the recall is in effect for the life of the vehicle even if the work has been performed once before.

I'm pretty sure it's for life.... if they failed again. and you got injuried while it wasn't working (after be declined repair). you could probably sue them good

If they decline repair, be sure to get it in written form on a dealership repair order. Be sure to have the complaint clearly written on the RO, and documented proof that THEY have declined to repair the issue. Insist that the service manager (not just the service writer)sign the actual invoice that you receive as proof to back up your claim. Your next step would be to contact either Mazda directly or the NHTSA in Washington, DC.
This site should also provide further info on the actual recall campaign: http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/proble...alls/Index.cfm

Mazda will step up to the plate and take care of any issues as long as you know where to turn. I worked for two different Mazda dealers for several years and I am familiar with most of their policies. Let me know how things work out for you. If you need any further help, let me know.
I also need to have the recalls done on my 90 TII, but I will not allow anyone to work on her. I have the belts modified to stay in the retracted position. I have to manually release the red button on the shoulder belt, but I would rather do that than to allow any dealership to perform the recall.

The seat belts should be replaceable for the life of the car...

I hope this helps man. Just like RX7GT said...they should replace it with no problem. If this continues you can probably go the the higher ups and get it straighten out.

Yes Yes, make sure you take your sound system if you have one, out of your car, and all other valuables, hence I took my car to the dealer for this free fix, and they fixed the auto seat belts but stole my cd player, amp and subwoofer!!!!!

when i had to get my seatbelts done.... it took them forever to even take a look at my car because it wasnt purchased from them and because the havent see a rx7 for a long time....most of them didnt even know that they made is car..... then i took the at least 5 day to find the seatbelt and then they gave me a problem about the recall because it was an old recall..... i told them that if i get injured because of the seatbelt.... i will sue Mazda.... then he shut up..... but i had no seatblet for over a week....

Haha, Funny you asked! it took them 4 days to intsall the new rails, and when I cam to pic my car up, the wires were hanging out the dash , and the service guy pulled up and got out, I look at him like wtf...he said and i quote "Was it like that when you droped it off?" I wanted to slap him long story short they got theres in the end, I signed the release form when I was 17 a minor, so the legal document was null and void, I got 500 bux from them two months later for Rockford CD Deck, Punch 100 amp, punch 12 in a box, all gone, but it all good I got them on sale for all three for 350

Yeah I have done that a couple of time, the biggest problems is getting the parts if you have a black interior on a s5 car.

Only one model had a black interior on the s4 and that was the 10Th AE.

I have swapped in gray parts and that looks OK, but moset people recover the headliner to black and paint the side panels with a good vinyl paint.

You should be able to use the black interior out of a S5 canadian car. They didnt have the seat belts.

I've heard varrying numbers on this, but the conversion saves something like 25lbs +.

Save 25lbs per side? Or total? I'm realy thinking about doing this. My interior is blue, so it should'nt be to much of a problem. CJ

Well i've heard both...
I would say 25lbs total should be easy to save, given the weight and compelexity of the mouse system...

Your replacing 2 retractors, 2 latches, and all those rails with 1 retractor and one set or latches... That seat belt stuff is heavy...
