Question Sensor on exhaust? what is it?

:The sensor on my factory exhaust fell off when i bought my new car, it is an 87 N/A
what is it & what might this cause, it smokes when its cold an when over revd', I am tring to keep it from going over 4,000 RPMS cause it starts smoking. what in the world would that be from? the sensor would not make it smoke would it?

Most likely O2 sensor?
One wire coming out from it close to the engine?

No, it's not the cause of the engine smoking.

The big sensor in the exhaust manifold is the oxygen sensor.

If it's missing, there's a hole in your exhaust.

this is not the 02 sensor i don't think. it is a little further back and did not have a wire, it had a thin pipe connecting it to something.

It had a pipe, not a wire? Was it on the catalytic converter? That's the backpressure feed to the aux-port actuators. Won't cause any problems, except for a lack of power over 3800 rpm.

yeah unfortuately i don't know what it was connected too.

But that is a deffinate possibility!

It comes off the lower intake manifold and goes to the cat on the exhaust.
